Darrel Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 I'm thinking about getting a solid rear pop-up cover (still thinking about electric or manual) for the back of a new pickup and wondering what impact this has on vehicle tax and registration, and whether it is better to get this done before the new vehicle is first registered or after? From what I understand the vehicle log book is supposed to show if the vehicle has such a cover, and if the description is incorrect the police can levy a small fine. I dont know if there are any other disadvantages like extra tax, or extra payments if one changes the description later on.
John 1 Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 I have a Carry boy fibreglass cover same height as cab been on for 13 years never been listed in the blue book or queried. I think you might find anything over roof line has to be noted in the book and tax paid. Go ask at a accessory shop or where you are buying from.
transam Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 For a lid no alteration in blue book, only the full height jobbies.
bdenner Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Actually a 'Carry Boy' attracts a 50 Baht surcharge on the road tax as it's classed as a permanent modification to the vehicle. Although I have never bothered to have it added to the blue book the BiB do query it from time to time, I just shrug my shoulders "Ba Ba Bab Bor Farang" has no idea what your on about and drive off. I can only assume the mechanized fibre glass cover would be treated the same.
