saddened by recent events I looked through old records n compiled a list of precaution .

Never understood why many people let their guard down so easily in LOS .

Let's hope that such tragic events be avoided in future.

1. Be careful with yr bags n valuables when travelling . Never leave them unattended!

2.Before using any service ,doublecheck to see if all the important documents and reciepts are all there and that the information is correct n matching.

3.Be careful of strangers that approach you with various offers of unbelievable bargains on jewelry and other things .

4.Before buying some items such as exotic wildlife products ,antiques , it may be wise to check with the proper authorities , to see if a permit is needed to take the item out of Thailand and/or into yr country .

5.Before leaving any shop ,make sure the items in the bag/box are indeed the items you selected , and the reciept is included. Most shops do not offer any refunds and/or exchanges.

6.Do not get , under any circumstances , involved in any kind of drugs or narcotics , child prostution , gambling or any other illegal activities as they will all have severe penalties .

7.Pay attention to all warnings , rules and information signs posted at tourist areas , malls or temples.

8. Do not travel alone in isolated places especially in the evening , and do not accept anything to drink or eat from a stranger on the street .

9.When visiting heavily populated areas such as Chatuchak Weekend Market ,Patpong Night Market or along Sukhumvit pls be beware of PICK-POCKETS.

Keep all travel documents n credit cards in a safe place n be aware of yr surrounderings . Pls keep also a copy of all related documents .

10. Do not use fly-by-night tour agencies. If you do not see the official authorization from TAT ask to see it , if they don't have it , then better move on .

Enjoy yr stay on Thailand

Sound advice.

I am still staggered how many people check in their common sense at the airport on arrival in BKK.

You are right. Good tips in prev. msg. too.

I always recommend that travellers use the safety/security box that the hotels have. Sometimes I have veteran travellers say "I've never had a problem in 5 years, 7 years, etc." Me, well - I rather be safe than sorry!

It's not only the hotel staff that we have to cautious of - we also have to consider the the other tourists in the hotel. If you leave your door open or the maid leaves the door open for just a short while - someone can run in and steal something. Some "scumbag" people check into a hotel, make a copy of the hotel room key, come back a month or two later and rip off anything of value from the room. Farangs all look alike to the maids, they probably think if a guy has a key it is probably okay for him to go into the room.

I won't even mention the tourists who get ripped off by "temporary guests" that they invite to their rooms. Guy goes into the shower, shuts the door, guest runs off with everything he left on the dresser which could be his passport, wallet, watch just about anything!

Use the security box for your cash and valuables. Better safe than sorry! Only keep enough cash with you to cover you for that day's (or night's) purchases.
