Nsr 150 Sp Running Poorly In Midrange.. Need Some Advice

What are decent shape bikes like the nsr etc go for?

Reading this thread is making me drool a bit. My first "big" bike was a yamaha rd 350 (middle 70's model), followed by an rz 350.

The first one had a wickedly narrow powerband resulting in lots of unintentional wheelies in 1'st and 2'nd gear, the rz being more smooth (slightly anyway) in its power delivery...

Pure performance wise they couldn't keep up with the 3 and 4 pot 4 strokers (at double the displacement) of course, but fun wise, hitting that magic rpm where the thing rockets of, aah, oodles more fun then the big boys...

So, I'm kind of interested in a 150 or 250 2stroke fun machine...any tips?

Am pretty good mechanically, so no worries doing all the basic stuff/adjustments, the tinkering with it is part of the fun for me....

Cheers...

P.s. Recently had a zoom around on a dash 125, compared to my wave 125, makes you realize that cc for cc, 2 stroke has no competition!

Agreed with KRS1 about pricing, but there seem to be not may NSR's SP around, it;s become a bit of a "collectors"bike ( at least among us farangs)

Some parts ( made in Japan) are quite expensive and that recent engine overhaul + replacing various parts costed me around 50K. and even with so much money spend that NSR keeps my busy as you can read in this thread.

Last february i bought a brand new Yamaha TZM 150 R from a dealer which still had "old" new stock Thanks to this Forum!!

It was 58K, and i'm very, very hapy with it. Untouched by dodgy mechanics , never modified or thai style tuned.

The dealer is in Khon Kaen and got loads of new 2 strokes ( mostly underbone) i don't have the adress at hand at the moment, will look it up and post it. It's also in an older thread about TZM's

The ZX150 is a good buy also, usually around 25k and share the engine with the serpico (I think?) the krr150 is the most powerful of the 2t 150's I hear.

Not too old, too. I think they stopped selling them in Thailand around 2003? They still sell them in india/malayasia I think.

2012 ZX150 (KRR) 2stroke. Similiar look to the ninja, but faster.

I had a couple of those ZX/KRR 150's, the rear wheel doesnt stick for anything, constantly losing grip when braking.

The ZX150 is probably the most expensive of all the used secondhand 2 strokes, but they also have the best attention to detail, and the most upright seating position. There's also a gear indicator from the factory.

had a krr in singapore, and a tzm here. krr isnt anymore faster or more powerful than the tzm imo. .but the the mileage is pretty amazing at 28km/l. my tzm goes like 17km/l

these 2 strokers are pretty tame, the ktm150 is really wild,

150 strokers are pretty tame for a 2 strokers, especially since you ever owned the rd350 aka roaddeath350. i had a lc350 for a good couple of years. if you keen in bringing back the excitement and dont mind a scrambler, you could try renting a old ktm200EGS for offroad ridings or convert it to a motard setup. crazy machines and pretty straight forward to rebuild, but their fuel consumption at dead nasty at 7km/l

if you have the moolah, the time and the skills, without a doubt PGM4

Now that we are talking about 2 strokes in general, here a few pics from my favorite 2 stroke of all times

the Kawasaki 750 triple. a.k.a. the Widowmaker.

Never owned one and problaly never will.

When i started riding bikes in the 80's those Kawa's ( and Suzuki's GT's and Yamaha's RD's) where already a dying race. A bit of a revival with the RD 350 LC and later the RD 500LC, Honda NSR 400, and Suzuki gamma in the late 80's. But the golden age of 2 strokes roadbikes ( in Europe) where the 70's

ahhhh, look at that cute lil bicycle frame... tongue.png

NSR 150sp owner here, and I do love this bike for its grin factor, proper 17 inch wheels, 2-smoke hooliganism, and how easy it is to embarrass 250 four stroke 'sport bikes.'

Hey, we should all go in, design & fab up a bottom end kit to join two or three NSR/KRR top ends together to build a fire breathing sleeper.

GOOD thread. a little bike porn, and member history...

Kawi H1 500 triple = my first speeding ticket. in high school biggrin.png

Cagiva Mito 125ev seven speed from my KL days. The only 125/150 2-smoke faster than an NSR with maybe a wiff more power, but much lighter with an aluminum frame & marchesinis, USD forks, brembos, and Italian design & handling.

And we end up with something looking like this:
