DSI politicising Samui land issue, says Tan Thaugsuban

BANGKOK: -- Tan Thaugsuban, son of Democrat Party secretarygeneral Suthep, insisted yesterday that his five land plots on Samui Island were acquired lawfully and were located outside reserved areas as he made his first statement responding to land encroachment charges brought against him by the Department of Special Investigation.

Tan said he would meet the DSI today as scheduled and would submit his written explanation.

During his press conference at a Bangkok hotel, he accused the DSI of politicising the issue to discredit him and his father, who was now an enemy of the DSI and an archrival of the Pheu Thai Party, which leads the government.

Citing maps from the Lands Department, Tan said all his five plots were located three kilometres away from Mount Khao Phaeng, which was a reserved area, and one kilometre outside the ring road going around the island.

It was impossible that his land was located in reserved areas as indicated by the DSI and told to the public on several occasions, he said.

Such announcements by the DSI had led to delays in property purchases, which resulted in an economic downturn on the resort island, he said.

"I'm not sure if the entire DSI is able to read maps. If they are, and study the Lands Department maps, then everything is over," he said.

All five land plots were legally acquired since their purchase 10 years ago. Partially transferable ownership documents were obtained and later fully transferable title deeds. Many owners of land plots nearby or elsewhere have acquired their properties through similar means, he said.

The DSI, as a government agency, should act naturally and not side with any political power, while Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung had stepped over the line for politicians, he said.

"In a fourday period, I turned from a witness into a suspect when the DSI summoned me to acknowledge the land encroachment charge," he added.

So whilst the DSI are keen to pursue this issue (which they should, until evidence shows either way what reality is), the Government announce they are going to fudge the land records in favour of all those wealthy people who encroached onto reserved Mangrove Swamp. Different rules for different people.

If anything, the land grabs, themselves, will lead to the downturn.

The DSI is supposed to investigate crimes, not get involved in politics. I have no idea whether this guy is guilty or not but the DSI needs to be independent of any and all political parties, regardless of their status. If someone complains, investigate, period.

I know I know, even I forget what a pathetic little country this has been, still is, always will be. Even it's neighbours look down on it.

I was talking to a neighbour who was amazed at the fact that although it was common knowledge that a local English bar owner who'd been selling ice/cocaine, whatever, having been 'caught', was flown out of the country by the local police captain, now 'colonel' post haste. Even after his being bought off for, rough estimate 3m baht, and that the 'king's police'? (assuming the CSD?) had still allowed not only this farang bar owner to re enter Thailand to be able to sort out his affairs, and nothing was done, no, not even an inactive post, was forthcoming for the scum police bought and paid for captain/colonel. So even the 'king's police' could not/would not stamp this particular bit of corruption out. What hope for this silly country?

And the really stupid part is the constant preoccupation with the ridiculous notion (for that is what it is folks) of 'face' by both farang and Thai alike. Idiots! Back to your sandpit.

Just to quickly point out something that everyone knew / suspected when looking at the sneering slimey HiSo tool in the picture above;

"The Democrat Party won elections in 13 September 1992, shortly after Black May, and formed a government. Suthep (his dad) became Agriculture Minister. As part of the Sor Por Kor 4-01 (สปก.4-01) land reform scheme, Suthep gave title deeds to 592 plots of land in Khao Sam Liam, Kamala and Nakkerd hills of Phuket province to 489 farmers. It was later found that members of 11 wealthy families in Phuket were among the recipients. "

His dad is as rotten as a 1 yr old apple, had control of dishing out land and able to make the map up he is holding. One would hope they would hand the turd out to dry but of course, it will all disappear just like the wildlife in his resort. Seems this seedling has not fallen far from the tree.

Suthep's son insists he is not encroaching on state land, claims issue is politicised

SURAT THANI: -- Tan Thaugsuban, son of Democrat MP Suthep, yesterday submitted to the Department of Special Investigation evidence related to his alleged involvement in land encroachment on Khao Phaeng, a mountain on Surat Thani province's Samui Island.

"We have not politicised this issue. Nothing is related to politics," DSI chief Tarit Pengdith insisted after Tan showed land-ownership documents to investigators at the department's headquarters.

Tarit said the DSI had been investigating Tan's case since the previous government led by Abhisit Vejjajiva. Additionally, DSI’s committees had agreed to take this issue as a special case for conduct an investigation.

On Sunday, Tan claimed at a news conference that his land was not within a forest reserve.

Tan earlier accused the DSI of politicising the issue to discredit him and his father, who he said was now considered an enemy by the DSI and was an arch-rival of the Pheu Thai Party, which now leads the government.

He insisted that all five of his plots were 3 kilometres from Khao Phaeng, which was a reserved area, and 1km outside the ring road around the island.

Tan yesterday went to DSI headquarters with his lawyer to hear the allegations of encroachment from DSI deputy director-general Pol Colonel Prawes Pramulmuk, who chairs the investigation team, and Pol Lt-Colonel Pravuth Wongsrinil, the chief of the Consumer and Environment Bureau, who was assigned as an investigator for the case.

Tan said after his meeting with the DSI that his land plots were not inside forest reserve areas.

He said he would provide documents demonstrating his lawful ownership of the land to the DSI and would cooperate with the agency over the investigation.

Regarding a separate allegation that the Land Department had issued him a Nor Sor 3 Kor title deed for another 14 rai (2.25 hectares) in forest reserve areas, Tan said it was a mistake by the department.

'THE LAND IS ON A SLOPE'

Pravuth said that even though Tan's plots were not inside a forest reserve, the land sloped more than 35 degrees. Individuals are not allowed to occupy such land.

"Tan admitted that it was his misunderstanding that these lands could be occupied and that land-ownership documents could be issued," he said.

The DSI will take legal action against Tan if it finds that the amount of land he now possesses exceeds the amount indicated on the Nor Sor 3 title deeds, the official said.

Since 2006, the DSI has taken legal action in 11 cases involving 465 rai in forest reserve areas, worth Bt2 billion.

"We do not discriminate against anyone. Everybody is subject to the same process," Pravuth said.

An important point to remember when you buy a land, you can't own a land if it slopes more than 35 degrees.

Also be careful with water reservoir, there are strict rules regarding the lands bordering public reservoirs.

Just to quickly point out something that everyone knew / suspected when looking at the sneering slimey HiSo tool in the picture above;

His dad is as rotten as a 1 yr old apple, had control of dishing out land and able to make the map up he is holding. One would hope they would hand the turd out to dry but of course, it will all disappear just like the wildlife in his resort. Seems this seedling has not fallen far from the tree.

I disagree. His dad is a kind man, and help the local palm farmers to get better palm fruit prices, hence also help poor palm oil processing refinery by limiting palm oil supply, during Mark as PM time.

Very kind to the HiSo families he cut land deals for whilst making himself immensely richer. Yeah, really kind. Especially to his turd son who he most likely fixed up ith a nice cheap plot with no limitations for use. Open your eyes mate - HiSo people are leeches on this country. Nothing more, nothing less.

I disagree.

I think only Hi-So (example Thaksin, Suthep, Chalerm, etc)have the financial resources to help the poor.

The poor can't even feed themselves, how to help others.

I know lets kill all the hiso families that are leeches. Because they dont own the factories do they. They dont own the big shopping malls do they. They dont own most of the large companies do they.

No they dont employ most of the workers in Thailand. Provide jobs etc.

They are just leeches.

IDIOT

The problem is not the rich. The problem is lack of support for the poor. Lack of leadership.
