BANGKOK: -- Pheu Thai MP Karun Hosakul Thursday denied that he has increased his wealth by Bt108 million as discovered in his assets report to the National Anti-Corruption Commission.

In his report to the NACC made on the occasion of one year after the House dissolution, Karun's wealth after debt deduction increased by B108 million

Karun Thursday explained that he had not amassed any wealth but had simply reported the value of amulets, which had a combined value of Bt90.5 million. Karun said that he did not report the value of the amulets in his previous assets statements.

Karun said he would be ready to explain his assets statement if the NACC has any doubt but he said there was nothing suspicious in the increase.

NACC Deputy Secretary-General Worawit Sukboon said he had instructed the Assets Investigation Division of the NACC to check the sources of Karun's increased wealth after the Isara News Agency reported that the Pheu Thai MP became Bt108 million richer in one year after the House dissolution.

Worawit said it would take some time to check the assets.

On May 10, 2012, one year after the House dissolution, Karun reported to the NACC that his assets increased by Bt109 million while his wife's assets increased by Bt3.3 million. After debt deduction, their assets' value increased by Bt108 million.

The assets report stated that Karun has 70 amulets worth Bt90.5 million.

By the way, IMHO, having 90 million worth of amulets is Ipso Facto, proof of having "unusual" wealth.

So his net worth is 108 million and he put 90 of those into amulets? c'mon, pull the other one, it has a whistle!

Well, short of a fast growing money tree, this will be a great story too follow.

His story would be: "I bought the amulets for 1 million and now they are worth 90 million. I didn't do anything wrong, just made good purchases". case closed.

Why am I waisting my time...?! Give the people the government they deserve. Unfortunately the other side also has to live with this corrupt bunch of scumbags. Meanwhile...the rich are getting richer, and the poor are getting poorer (at least they now can dream of things they will never get).

Pffff

When's the by-election for his MP district in Bangkok after he gets tossed out on his ear just like Thaksin's niece did for also lying on her asset declaration statement???

.

didn't he already get kicked out for slurring an opposition candidate? something about telling every one his opponent was gay and you can't trust gays or something like that.. he is a nice fella.

That's either someone else or something he didn't get kicked out for because he's a current constituency MP for the Pheu Thai Party.

He's also an indicted Red Shirt Leader with multiple charges who is currently out on bail and parliamentary immunity.... unless he's stripped of his MP status before the House reconvenes on Aug. 1, but then, he's still free as he's also out on a cash bail.

Agree, he's a real nice fella.

It seems that k. Karun admits his previous declarations were incomplete. That may explain the 'wealth increase', but that leaves him guilty of 'incorrect asset declaration'. Both offences, when judged so, will probably give the same verdict?

If I remember correctly k. Karun H. was a real valuable asset during the Flooding disaster October/November last year. He was removed from overseeing flood supplies, threatened anyone who dare to mention that he allegedly led Don Muang residents to destroy a dyke to block overflow from the Khlong Prapa canal, and he got his ass kick as well it seems.

The EC resolved to revoke Mr Karun's voting right and ordered a by-election in Don Muang, Mr Puchong said.

The commission will also ask that, if found guilty, Mr Karun be required meet the cost of holding a new poll, he said.

Mr Tankhun charged Mr Karun with making four false accusations against him:

1) Mr Karun accused Mr Tankhun of changing his Chinese surname, causing his father to die of grief.

2) He accused him of being a photo model for a pornographic magazine and claimed that he was homosexual.

3) He alleged that the Democrats were paying people 300 baht each if they turned up to listen to their speeches during the campaign.

4) He claimed that Mr Tankhun looked down on the people of Don Muang.

So he is disqualified pending the Supreme court. but can carry on his duties. Oh and Tankhun had video and recorded evidence from a rally Mr medallion organized thumbsup.gif

When does the court rules about this?
