Scot accused of running trafficking racket deported from Thailand

John Alty smuggled Sri Lankans and Iranians into Australia and New Zealand.

A SCOT suspected of running an international trafficking racket has been deported from Thailand.

John Alty, 57, is believed to have masterminded the smuggling of Sri Lankans and Iranians into Australia and New Zealand.

The convicted drug trafficker was arrested in May by Thai police acting on information passed to them by the UK Border Agency.

He returned to Britain at the weekend after being held in a notorious Bangkok detention centre for the last two months.

Alty, from Glasgow, had been running a guest house called the Squealing Pig in Hua Hin, 180 miles south of the Thai capital.

The father of two moved to Thailand several years ago and immersed himself in the country’s lucrative sex industry.

He once claimed on a website that Thai prostitutes found their work “fun” and “loved the life”.

He added: “You can take the girl out of the bar ... but you can’t take the bar out of the girl..!”

Alty – who changed his name from John Cumming in 1993 – was escorted to the airport from the infamous Bangkok Detention Centre by police.

That it is a positive event that this P.O.S. convicted drug-trafficker is tossed out back to U.K aside,.....its a bit overdone on the dramatics. The author apparently never new any silly little hookers in their prime who were in the biz by choice and enjoying it, and the second quote ...well some things are just so consistently true as to be monotonous.

Alty is believed to have initially wanted to fight his case and remain in Thailand.

But sources say he quickly changed his mind after another Briton was found dead in

solitary confinement in the same detention centre.

So after the other inmate committed suicide by caving in his own head, John Alty changed his mind about fighting his deportation. Probably a wise idea as suicide can be very contagious. You have two choices, voluntary deportation or suicide.

What a travisty! Perhaps the Canadian Govt should finance Alt's legal defence. Alty ships Iranian & Sri Lankan Illegals to Oz; instead of them climbing on leaky Thai Tramp Ships and showing up offshore near Vancouver Island. The last bunch of Tamils cost Cdn Govt something like $60-$100 Million CAD. Send 'em to Oz please!

I would say he got his one big break in life. Doubt it will scare him straight though. I personally would hate no longer having the option of being able to go back to Thailand. It really is a great place to visit.

I agree - those pick-ups with loud speakers are VERY loud and a real nuisance.

Seems harsh to deport someone, though, for a trafficking racket as it goes on daily??? advertising everything from schools to boxing matches?

Most Australian's feel the same way the Canadians do.

He'll never go straight.

Shame he wasn't deported to Australia.

I'm sure he'd prefer that to being sent back to that miserable little island he and so many of his fellow countrymen flee from each year to the much better places like Australia.

It may come as a surprise to you but the Australian and Canadian governments have been working closely to stop the flow of illegal Tamil immigrants and it has been the Australian intelligence sevice that has tipped of the CBSA. There is a reason why there has been a large task force of multiple Canadian law enforcement agencies in Thailand for the past year and why the Canadian government delivered a strong ultimatum to Thailand, backed up by Australian muscle. The result has been that the flow was stopped. Instead of wishing ill will on Australia, you should be thanking any Australian you meet, since it has been Australian tax payers that paid for the initial fight against scum like this man. If and when the RCN ever gets the defective subs the UK sold Canada, under false pretenses, seaworthy one of them will be patrolling the pacific tracking illegal boats. Until then, Canada will rely on Australian naval assets and other intelligence to protect itself.

In the sex trade and he actually changed his name from "John Cumming" - job description too much to handle?

He should have changed it to "John Cunning" whistling.gif
