Driving Licences In Phuket

I was just at the botanical gardens behind Wat Chalong today, it was quite pleasant. It was one of those places you flash your Thai driving licences and it costs you 100 baht instead of 500, for me Its worth at least 200 baht but no more, 500 is slightly steep.

Now Im not starting a 'how do I do Phuket on the cheap thread' but I would just be interested to know where else in Phuket this works?....I know it works at Phuket Aquarium and Phuket Zoo, and I think the aqua park. (I even went to the awesome aquarium in Siam Paragon in BKK and got half price), but it didnt work at that shythouse waterfall up in Talang, I have seen a bigger waterfall in my toilet after a big night out on the soup

I dont fully agree with the dual pricing but I look at it this way...if I were in my home country I would like to get a discount for being a local going into the touristy spots

I have found the Thai Driving Licence works just about everywhere on Phuket and over all Thailand. Can't think of anywhere that would not accept it. Always have my work permit handy ready to tell them I pay my Thai income tax, but so far never had to go to that extreme.

Visited the Botanical Gardens last month, was Ok but nothing terrific. Good for an hour at most.

I hear sometimes it works for the ferry to Phi Phi.

Reference the dual pricing, it is not strictly a Thai phenomenon. This last winter when I lived in a tourist destination in the states, I regularly got "local discounts" at restaurants which were clearly published. I also was able to get very discounted Disney World passes by using my dad's address to appear local. A bit different I suppose since it's not a discounted price based primarily on nationality, but similar.

Yeah but it is nice and a fair bit of work and expense went into it, yes an hour is enough....but as i said 100 baht is good value...200 would be the limit. They only charge 20 baht for water which I liked and the staff are heaps friendly. apparantly its owned by the same guy that owns Phuket Zoo.

I have heard that the mining mueseum wont accept the Thai licence and as I said before that waterfall in thalang wouldnt accept it

I get a local discount at a few falang owned resorts and hotels that I drink at...I wont name them here as they might get shitty because the balloon chasers might go in and start demanding TV rates, but its decent enough 5% at one of my favourite places.

Yeah I got in the Zoo with a discount on a Thai Licence, I was even dating a Filipino woman at the time who was in Phuket on holidays.... and told her not to say too much....got her in at Thai prices too. When they point to the admission signs in English I tell them I am Russian and cant read English....then read off the Thai script (handy little trick reading the Thai all though Im not the best at it, I can do menus, number plates, street signs)
