Tennistv.Com & Nfl.Com - How Much Speed Do I Need?

I have subscribed to both tennistv.com and nfl.com .. these services allow you to watch the matches/games in HD..

I have a True Online ADSL connection '12M/1M' ... it costs me 1497฿ a month.

It's not fast enough to consistently display the video in HD720 on either tennis or football.. sometimes its in HD but right now i'm watching the first preseason game live and no hd..quite blocky which sucks because i could get that from one of those free streaming sites..

whats really disappointing is that if I opt to watch the games on playback (not live)..they(nfl & tennis) don't allowme to hit [pause] so that the data can catchup like what youtube allows.. if you don't have the speed then you can't watch with good quality.

it is fast enough to stream some videos from youtube, even as high as 1080p.. somevideos are slow some are fast..

i'm wondering if anyone else here is using these services and experiences, i'm afraid if i upgrade to a more expensive ADSL it still won't be fast enough-like maybe the problem is at the other end at nfl.com & tennistv.com?

There have been many threads on this subjects over the most recent two seasons and users, at least for the NFL streamed video products, seemed to be generally positive in their experiences using DSL and DOCSIS here. I do remember a few people who did have some issues, but again, ~ 80% seemed positive. It might help that most of the NFL games occur live at off-peak times?

I don't think you can compare any service to the YouTube Olympic channel as Google have a ton of infrastructure (bandwidth and localized servers) behind that incredible service. I gave up on TrueVisions Olympic coverage and opted to just stream YouTube to my TV as you can watch anything/everything, and I could get two windows at 720 on my True 10/1 DSL line. If I knew I could get similar performance with an NFL product I would go for Season Plus $269.99) in a heartbeat. As it stands now I'll probably just stick with ASN and some BT for my team's games and local weekly show.

I did see that the HoF game was on both ASN and TS3, not sure about PS01 games.

..like after the preseason game ended-which was not in hd, i put up a tennis game which is perfect, but yesterday tennistv suked..i'm wondering if upgrading the inetrnet speed would even make a diference

The issue is less one of your bandwidth to the door, and more the entire chain, so its very hard to tell as so many factors can be involved. Do you have to use a VPN ??

My HD streaming to the UK drops off night and weekends and becomes SD. I am on a modest 10Mbit TOT package and looking at true Ultra cable as the next leg up. It works fine daytime, no buffering and clear HD, but falls down when everyone on the moobaan comes home.

I also have the 'cannot pause' with some rugby matches. Broadcast rights preventing them offering local caching / download is how they explained it to me.

Had the same question with BBB and when I asked at the desk the woman told me its because the sites I was trying to stream were not in Thailand and it didn't really matter what speed I had, she also told me there was a different promotion that gave me faster international speed but costed 2,500 baht. I'm not sure if this was true or not as I didn't try the more expensive promotion but may explain your problem........

Hi,

I have & use a service that streams most sports, including tennis events, and *all* NFL matches plus RedZone -- based out of a server in Singapore.

Works reliably for me on 3BB & True, but not TOT as routing goes to Los Angeles and then back.

If anyone wants to try it out, shoot me a message with an email address, and I'll get you added with same username you have on here.

Also if any bars in Asia want it, not a problem also.

P.S. If your in Bangkok, come over and watch the games with me on my 46" :)

Cheers.
