Lite Beer
Democrat cries foul over appointment of Thida to education planning panel BANGKOK: -- The Democrat Party Friday cried foul over the appointment of red-shirt movement leader Thida Thavornsent as a member of a panel in charge of planning national education strategy. Democrat spokesman Chavanon Intharakomalsut said the appointment of Thida, chairwoman of the United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), was unacceptable as the red-shirt leader could poison the mind of students and youths. The Democrat spokesman said Thida should have not been appointed to the sub-committee on education planning because she harbours attitude detrimental to the nation and she has been campaigning against Article 112 of the Criminal Code. -- The Nation 2012-08-
Moruya
What a joke this government is anyway but to put this toxic individual into an educational role along side the idiot Suchart is a sin worthy of a thunderbolt.
Buchholz
Additional information posted in another thread just prior to this new thread... Even though Thida wasn't given an MP chair like her husband was, the Yingluck government has now rewarded her with a chair on the Education Ministry's Office of the Education Council. Another Red Shirt appointed to the Council is Worapol Prommikabutr. Still another appointed to the Education Council by Yingluck Shinawatra's government is Yingluck's older sister, Yaowaret Shinawatra. Still others include failed Pheu Thai Party constituency MP candidates and a Red Shirt lawyer. The list of all appointees used to be viewable in pdf format on the government website: http://www.onec.go.t...-27-07-2012.pdf but it's since been taken down after the news of its content began circulating amongst the media. OzMick
Kids brains are easier to poison than adults brains...normally. Evolution theory teaches that this is so. Children must believe what their elders tell them to increase their chances of survival as you can't learn by experience that playing on the edge of the cliff or by the crocodile infested waters is dangerous. Religions rely on being taught to young children - if you leave it until they are old enough to reason they rarely accept it.
jonclark
Good, I'm glad she has been given this position, she's worked hard for it with her patronage. And before anyone jumps down my throat, lets all remember this (technicalities aside) is what the majority of Thai people voted for so enjoy your salvation, I hope their kids get the education and future life their parents voted for. No regrets, pity or anger just acceptance of the truth. Thailand for the Thais - They're welcome to it, enjoy Edit - spelling Edited August 10, 2012 by jonclark

djjamie
PT and UDD completely mirrors the Brown shirts of Hitlers day. History repeating itself. DEATH-BLOW TO DEMOCRACY What have the Brown Shirts done since Hitler became Chancellor on January 30? They have dealt a deathblow to democracy in Germany, and have made Parliament into a despised relic of the past. They have put one party, and one party only, into control, and that is the National-Socialist party, which has become as all-powerful as the Communists in Russia and the Fascists in Italy. The Nazis (pronounced Natsi-s) have put themselves into the position of leaders in the universities, in all committees, in factories, on boards of directors, in schools, in public offices. Most positions of trust are now held by members of the party. ramrod711
On the bright side, the education system in this country can't get much worse. Nearly all the people that can afford it sen their children to other countries. A recent study placed Thailand 54 out of 56 countries for fluency in english. when this Asean trade deal takes effect, and these people really have to compete, not just pay bribes, they are in big trouble. webfact
POLITICS Thida, Worajet turn down appointments to Nec The Nation Thida BANGKOK: -- Reds leader Thida Thavornsret and Nitirat Group coleader Worajet Pakirat on Friday vowed to turn down their appointments to subcommittees of the National Education Council (Nec) in the middle of an outcry, with opponents alleging that subcommittees dominated by prominent red shirts would inculcate detrimental political ideologies in students. Education Minister Suchart Tadathamrongvej, however, stood firm by his decision. "The appointees have good qualifications. If you look at the whole list, you will find that members of the subcommittees have different political convictions. There are figures seen as affiliated with the yellow shirts too," Suchart said. The subcommittee, which includes Thida as a member, is tasked with working on policies and planning. Nec secretary general Anek Permwongsenee said this committee had no mandate to issue an order. Thida said she had not had in advance that she would be appointed to the subcommittee. "I have just talked to Suchart and asked why he did such a thing to me. I won't take this post," she said. In a separate interview, Worajet said he just found out that he had been appointed to an Nec subcommittee. He said if the appointment order arrived, he would submit his resignation. "I have so many things to do. I don't have time to work on this subcommittee," he said. -- The Nation 2012-08-
