Hi,

After 25 years of working in the hospitality industry in this country,I'm finaly going to retire smile.png and wish to apply for an extention of stay based on retirement; I've got a One Year Fxed Deposit Bank Book with one million baht on it, somebody told me that they (immigration officers) won't accept it as it apparently must be a Current Account bank book; is it true?

Thanks for enlightening me wai.gif

If you can withdraw the funds at any time then it should be OK. If it's truly a fixed deposit that you can't touch for a specified period, then it probably won't be accepted. Most "fixed deposits" can be withdrawn before the end of the period with an interest penalty and are usually accepted by immigration. If it's convenient, why not take the bank book to your local immigration office and ask? The rules vary from province-to-province. Don't count on what they tell you in the bank -- I know of people burned at immigration by bad info from their bank managers about just how liquid their deposits were.

Accounts must be in your name only - but fixed deposit accounts (cash) should be accepted. It is the fund type accounts that would not be accepted.

I offered a Savings Account plus Term Deposit Account for my married extension two months ago. This is where a sum is invested for a fixed Term at a good interest rate but can be withdrawn at any time with loss of interest of course. After discussion with the Captain it was accepted.

As with sooooo many things in Thailand its going to depend on who you speak to on the day, what mood they are in, and what he/she wants to accept. Everything else is just plain guess work unless you ask the specific office in question and officer concerned what he or she wants.
