Thinking of buying this phone when I am in Thailand next month, like the idea of dual sim as I currently have to carry a personal phone and a work phone, it is the first dual sim smartphone from a major manufacturer that has current spec and OS.

It is 10,990 baht in Jaymart

Does anyone have one? if so how do you find it?

Would I save much by looking round in MBK or is it not worth the bother?

cheers

this is an AWESOME cpu... battery life will be phenomenal for the power it has. and "clock for clock" is significantly faster than the Cortex a9. it's video rendering capabilities are excellent too...Easily the best budget CPU. i thought it hadn't been released yet..Qualcomm had to do some reconstruction of the lineup and was slated for Q4...? some benchmarks and more info on the CPU.

The dual SIM is really cool. In Indonesia they sell a piggyback device that allows the use of dual Sims. It's a Y shape flex that has two SIM holders at the top of the Y and the bottom slides into the phones SIM card holder. You used to be able to get them here, but last time I went hunting I was told not any more.

@ happysanook The processor sounds nice - cheaper, faster and less power ... and the form factor looks the same as previous models which I find a comfortable hand fit. Enough I think to temp me to get rid of my Nexus one and the need to carry spare batteries.

A big lowering of the cost / performance dollar point.

After getting rid of the HTC Sense and replacing it with a different OS this phone could be great I think.

Just had a look on the HTC website and the specs read okay but:

The dual Sim feature is dual standby (not dual active)

  • One slot supports both HSPA/WCDMA and GSM/GPRS/EDGE, and another slot supports GSM/GPRS only
  • HSPA/WCDMA: dual-band (900/2100 MHz)
  • GSM/GPRS/EDGE: tri-band 900/1800/1900 MHz

Also, according to the HTC.com website review section: "Excellent product but disappointed with Internal memory. Advertised as 4GB but only 1GB available for user "

and another:

"This mobile's battery has very poor battery backup, and it has 1GB internal memory instead of 4GB as HTC specification. It has 512MB RAM but this is not enough for normal Process. Dual sim is ok but should have dual active. if this mobile has secondary camera"

The processor sounds great, but this phone doesn't seem to do it justice.

Think I'll stick with the Nexus One after all :)

Whats dual active? Surely dual standby means both sims are ready to receive calls! Or does it mean that for example if your browsing the net on one sims 3g then the other will not receive a call???

personally man, i would just stick with your Nexus one for now... unless you're unhappy with it's performance. the biggest difference would be the dual sim, Android ICS, dual core, 4gb rom instead of 512mb, and should give better battery life... sounds like a lot, but i don't think worth 12k baht? if it's in good condition, you could get 3 or 4k baht for your Nexus one...which would bring it down to 8k...

i know i keep touting these chinese phones, but bang for the buck they can't even be close to beat... so what, you don't have a local warranty (need to be shipped back to china)...i'd gladly spend 6k baht and keep 6k in my hands and have the same (or better) product and let them keep their warranty..they are not some crap generic phones... Lenovo and Zopo are well made. Zopo's uses an excellent Sony camera and AVS Sharp 960x540 screen on even it's low models...though the Zopo are single core, you'd still be getting all the other benefits (minus improved battery life) and then some with the excellent camera and LCD...(edit: + front facing camera)

EDIT: just saw this Desire V, no front facing camera ... big deal breaker.. i'm shocked people are buying $400 phones with no front facing camera in 2012...i guess if no plans to video chat ever, then not such a big deal...but IMO it's a great feature to have...

thanks for the comments....

should I just buy it from Jaymart, powerbuy or one of the bigger retailers for 10990 baht or is it worth shopping around in MBK...

will it be much cheaper, is there any disadvantage of buying from a small stand in MBK

haven't bought a phone in Thailand since 2005 so any advice welcome

cheers

Does anyone actually use the front facing cameras? I have never used one and wouldn't be the least bit disappointed if the manufactures quit installing them. Do they even offer that service here in Thailand?

Yes, I do all the time, talking to family and friends back in the UK on Skype and Tango. Tango is even better than Skype because you can leave a video message when somebody isn't available. My grandchildren are always sending me video messages to tell me about things they've done etcsmile.png .
