My wife and I have moved to Bangkok very recently, and have rented an apartment in Ari. While it's lovely and quiet round here, we'd love to be able to go for a drink somewhere - not necessarily a bar for westerners as we're not exactly rich - just somewhere we can go and have a good time! Can anyone suggest anywhere nearby please? Ta

Phonythin Soi 5 (between Phonythin and Rama 6) has many restaurants/pubs; I have only driven by but some look attractive and busy at night.

The area is expensive. Lot's of HiSo there.

Hobs in Soi 5 is nice for drinking. Suan Kulab, same Soi, has some of the best food in Bangkok. Very reasonable prices too.
