Border trade resumed this week at the Teknaf port linking Burma and Bangladesh for the first time since the crossing was closed due to an outbreak of sectarian riots in northern Arakan State in early June, according to a report by the Kaladan news agency. Forty-nine passengers from Burma and 36 Bangladeshis used the port on Wednesday, its first day of operation since it was closed on June 8, the report said. Traders and border authorities from both countries expressed satisfaction with the move, which comes despite continuing tensions between Buddhists and Muslims in Arakan State.
