Progressive Leaders Join Elon Musk in Critiquing American Healthcare Costs
Easy to blame the health insurers. Convenient too. The health insurers are one small part of the cost structure. On the contrary, the health insurers would dearly love to reduce the cost of healthcare. The culprits are the US public. 1. The largest investors in the private healthcare industry are pension funds both public and private, mutual fund companies and venture capital investment houses. Their sole objective is to maximize the return on investment. When the ROI is not achieved, the investors, beneficiaries, fund holders are up in arms. 2. The health care providers themselves are a major factor in keeping procedure costs up. Surgeons want to keep their $500,000+ incomes. 3. Private hospitals are there to make a profit, not to deliver affordable healthcare. They are the middlemen delivering healthcare and want their cut. 4. The litigious nature of Americans requires all healthcare providers to make additional profits because they often have to pay unreasonable excess settlements. When a morbidly obese person has a high risk procedure like child birth and the child is born damaged, the family typically sues and claims negligence. it results in expensive court cases and nuisance settlements. 5. The cost of supplies and drugs is subject to large cost markups through the supply chain. Everyone takes a cut, from the overpaid Teamsters who deliver the goods, to the supply houses who markup the products, to the sales person who wines and dines hospital administrators and physicians to encourage their purchases. 6. The consumer. Many hospitals are stuck with the unpaid medical care of the indigent and those who just don't pay. Honest people are forced to pay for them -

EV Owners Frustrated as Samui Ferries Restrict EV Transport Over New Year Period
Joking aside, I would have thought a petrol or diesel fire can be dealt with via regular onboard equipment, but I assume an EV battery fire is a totally different kettle of fish to deal with in the confines of a cramped, sandwiched car park deck...........😕 -

EV Owners Frustrated as Samui Ferries Restrict EV Transport Over New Year Period
It is highly unlikely that the Raja Ferry Company has equipped its aging fleet with modern fire-fighting technologies. In fact, I strongly doubt that their vessels adhere to up-to-date fire safety standards or undergo regular seafaring and fire safety inspections as standard. Considering that internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles are 20 to 60 times more likely to catch fire than electric vehicles (EVs), any fire incident on such a ferry would be a significant concern. Ultimately, when examining the core issue, the greater risk may lie in using this ferry company at all - regardless of the type of vehicle transported - rather than debating the relative fire risks associated with ICEs versus EVs. IMO - this is theatre - designed to announce to stupid people that "we are safe, use us" - when in reality their announcement highlights the opposite. An intelligently ran company would be announcing they'd upgraded their 'Fire Fighting Equipment and Technology' ahead of the New Year travels instead of highlighting their inadequacies. -

Taxation Registration
What will they do if you do not pay tax, arrest you at immigration ? I have said before, the idea of taxing people in Thailand earning money coming from abroad if you work for an abroad company and you have not paid tax on it in that country is FINE in my opinion. It should be that ONLY, nothing else. If this gets to the point of a tax on your savings in your home country and having to prove you had the savings years prior to sending it and how it was earned and taxed, then Thailand loses alot of its expats, and IF you have to pay millions of tax when sending money to buy a house it will also fall apart as the thai housing market cannot accept a 25% tax on foreign buyers -
