Burmese President Thein Sein received Canadian International Trade Minister Edward Fast and his delegation at the Credentials Hall of the Presidential Palace in Naypyidaw on Monday evening. Thein Sein was accompanied by Foreign Minister Wunna Maung Lwin, Presidential Office ministers Thein Nyunt and Hla Tun, Minister for Industry Aye Myint, Minister for Commerce Win Myint and various department heads. Thein Sein thanked the Canadian government for easing economic sanctions on Burma. Plans are currently under way to open a Burmese embassy in the Canadian capital, Ottawa, and a Canadian embassy in Naypyidaw which, Fast said, will include a fill-time trade commissioner. The Canadian delegation’s Southeast Asian trade tour also included Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.
