Planning a first trip to Krabi. What would be the best way to do this:-

1. Buy a package deal with hotel, flights etc all included.

2. Do it all yourself booking everything using the internet.

3. Travel down there and book hotels etc when you get there.

Any info appreciated.

Where are you travelling from likite?

I drove there last year (from Chonburi) and just dropped in at a number of resorts until I found one I liked.

If you intend travelling in high season it'd probably be worth booking ahead though.

Here are some hot deals promoted by the Tourist Authority of Thailand, and here is some TAT info on Krabi itself.

Hope you enjoy your holiday. :o

Thanks for the info here Jai Dee we will be flying down from Bangkok.

I guess we could hire a car once we get there and do what you did. Checking things out first hand is better than booking blind on the internet.

it depends on your life style, if you are lazy type, so better 1#

for me i like 2# , sort of fun, i went to Krabi in 2wks ago , for a week .. i organized all from net , plan all what/how to do /go ..ect

for the 3# it's the last way i will do , "walk in" is good for some places /season (low-med) , it could waste your time , imagine u carry few luggage and walk around somewhere you dont know the direction well (even you have a map), with hot weather

anyway , even you choose 1,2 or 3.. i hope you have a good time at krabi .. :o

one thing that you'd know.. when you book direct from hotel (even their official website) .. its much more expensive tahn net ( 20-30 %) bcoz hotel will give some room for agencies , and it will have competition btween agencies , they will dump the prize

example

-Koh Samed ,Ao Prao Resort , direct from walk-in /official site 7,370 bht , i booked from net 5600 bht

-Karbi ,Pranang inn,direct from walk-in /official site 2550-3250 Bht , i booked from net 2000 Bht

My favorite method is to book 2 nights at a hotel online ahead of time. Most mid-range hotels can vary in the accuracy of their representations on-line.

If i like the place, I'll inquire as to staying a few extra nights. If I don't, i am not locked into wasting money on a hotel room i don't want.

This works better in low season than hi season.

What part of Krabi do you want to go to? Ao Nang and Railey can get kind of dull after 3 days...easy to skip off to Lanta or Phi Phi or continue on southbound to Trang.

So it's cheaper sometimes booking from an agency - right I'll check that out.

Another good tip, thanks for that.

I think I'll book a couple of nights first and then see which way the wind blows us!
