Us Moves To Ease Burma Import Sanctions

Featured Replies

The Obama administration is pushing to ease a ban on imports from Burma ahead of separate visits by Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi and President Thein Sein this month, according to a report by The Financial Times. Officials in the White House, state department and Congress are discussing the move, the report said, adding that the ban isn’t likely to be lifted without Suu Kyi’s approval. The administration hopes to announce its intention to start lifting the ban during Thein Sein’s visit, giving his government a boost at a time when it faces criticism of a new foreign investment law.
