Mil Needs New Teeth, How Much For Dentures?

My [sometimes] sweet mother in law has lost almost all of her teeth and I would like to help purchase a set of dentures, uppers and lowers. The govmt hospital will pull the 5 remaining teeth, but doesn't cover the cost of dentures. Wondering if anyone out there knows how much for a full set of dentures if bought in the province [issan]. I would like to know before i just blindly send too much or not enough money.

Anyone have any idea of cost for local dentist to make the dentures....not tourist price.

I suggest you use a private clinic as the governmental hospitals are not famous for being exactly sterile and having the best quality. It's a totally different game here in Thailand.

It would be easier for us to give more information if you told us which city she lives in.

A few years ago I saw a dentist in Ubon who said that the govt scheme covered the cost of dentures, but it might take two years before the dentures were completed!

A full set at the private hospital cost about 10000 baht. I had a set made at a clinic in Bangkok, cost was about 15000 baht and took a few visits and about 3 weeks to complete.

I should have expected this post to get a few of the thaivisa comedy gang.....but this is a serious request for info and so far only Blue has given any 1st hand info....thanks Blue. I was hoping that it would be a bit less than 10k.

She is located in Surin and would use the govmt hospital to yank the few remaining teeth with no long wait, but 2 years without teeth is a long time to wait. Maybe, as a lot of things here in LOS the policy varies from province to province.

I'm sure there are private hospitals in Surin. The govt dentists will work there as well.

Just go along and ask,in Ubon dentures only took a month or so, several "fittings"required etc.

The dentist I saw in Ubon worked in a Govt hospital in Warin amphur, a few kms away. She was the one

who did my teeth in Bangkok, as she had moved there.

I asked a local Dentist about this with my MIL and was quoted 6 - 10 k baht dependent on what was involved after taking the mould etc and what type was wanted.

I didnt want her looking like Red Rum ! it was strongly recommended that it would be better done in Bangkok. She's now waiting for the reaming few to be removed (get worse) as she is a big baby.

It might be worth while to set up an appointment in a bigger city like CM (lots of clinics here who are quite reasonable), have her travel up to visit you and get her some new choppers, have a visit and make some points with everyone. Last I heard the price was about 7500 baht, but that is somewhat dated.

Try the Dental clinic at KKU (Khon Khaen). re wiats under the govt scheme it is not "policy"but a matyter iof demand and how many people ahead in the queue. However it is possible for any Thai citizen (or foreigner) to use the servcies of a giovt hospital on a fee basis in which they will usually get priority service at rates stiull less than private.

And KKU is the best/most extensive facility in Issan.

Thanks for the tip Sheryl, but Moma is in Surin and the whole procedure would take several 7 hr bus rides to KK to get it fitted properly and she is 70 yrs old and it would be an added strain on her to make the trip so I'm looking for local Surin clinics or dentists for the extractions and fitting of dentures.

Are you back in LOS??

My Farang BIL Bought the MIL some dentures. She carried them in her pocket with the other things she carries and quickly slips them in when if she sees him coming!!!sick.gif

I had enquired in Chiang Mai a month ago....20,000 baht was quoted twice,so the prices given by other posters are either outdated or a bargain.

That sounds like 'falang tourist' prices in CM to me, which have increased 2X over the last few years and the 'dental tourists' flocking in to get cheap work and driving the prices up for usexpats living here. I used to get excellent work from the best clinic in town [name starts with a 'G'] and the last time I went there for a simple cleaning, it was almost as much as a cleaning in the US, so now I'm using a local Thai dentist that charges a fraction of G's prices.

But, in all fairness to 'G'.....she still does quality work and it's a slick operation.
