3 Little Pigs does a killer burger and Pickles recently put a good one on their menu too. I'm amused by the comments regarding eating Western food here but I look out for burgers for my Thai kids (who won't touch Mc D's after trying it once - at 7 & 9 they have good taste!). Yesterday brought home a Burger & Bacon Pizza from Pickles for them, 2 of their favorite foods 2gether makes 2 happy boys!!

I haven't tried the burgers from Pickles yet but their pork pastrami is excellent. smile.png

When everything is running properly (can get a little sketchy during Ramadan, for example), Sony's Fatimah restaurant near the mosque off Chang Klan is hard to beat. The double cheeseburger all the way with fries is almost more than I can eat, and at 110 baht, it's okay to leave some on the plate. He makes his own patties, and they make most I've seen around Chiang Mai look like hockey pucks.

BTW: All the way will include a fried egg on top. You can just say no egg if that's not the way you roll.

This is not a place for ambiance, and it's not fast. It's just very good at burgers.

Gekko's, Soul Kitchen (3 Pigs), and Sahara also do a fine job.

As for that "why come all this way for a burger when you can have Thai food" meme wears a bit thin after a few years.

Thai food can be very good, but it's seldom better than a good burger, and it's not healthier in most cases.

Sometimes I think I'll never be able to look at another bowl of noodle soup ...

Quit bitching, ...this thread is timely as the number one, Gypsies grill and number two, Dukes express are now closed. Dukes is not so convenient for me, my vote now goes to CM saloon.

this is a thread on the best burgers. Not on what is convenient to you.

Definitely needed resurrecting, nothing for a few days burger related.

Buy the burgers (3 for 79฿) and the buns at Makro and make my own.

They are the best, but there may be a little bias! tongue.png

Directions please.

I wonder if the mods deliberately make the posting space on things they don't like wide on purpose.

Forcing you to slide the bar over to get all the post.

Hoping we will give it up. Never Burgers are a very important subject.clap2.gif

FIRST POST!!! wink.png

(Oh gawd, a burger topic)

1. The Dukes (The main branch on the river)

2. Irish Pub (On Ratwithi Road; get the everything-burger)

After that it depends on personal preference and budget. I'm rather partial to the Big Kahuna burger myself.

Go!

partytime2.gif

where is the Big Kahuna burger then?

thanks

After eyeing off Fatimah with admitted suspicion for quite a while I gave it a go tonight on your recommendation. Probably more of a hangout than a restaurant, the burger did indeed deliver! 85 baht for a burger with cheese and crinkle cut fries. Certainly better quality than a franchise, maybe on par with what Gecko do.

Tell the members to stop posting oversize offsite photos. A micro closeup of a hamburger is a bit off putting. biggrin.png

In fact, I prefer Thai beef for my boigas, very little fat. Gypsie did add fat when he ground his own (Aussie beef) so I limited myself to about one a month. And talk about bitching, sorry helldolly but convenience matters, and dukes aint close enough to me , get over it. Big Kahuna, thats the new Hawaiian burger place, that IS a tasty burger........

All the places mentioned have a reasonably good burger, it isn't rocket science to make one, but my vote for best "home -

made is Gecko, and best over all Burger King.....have it your way!

Correct not rocket science but to make a good burger culinary knowledge is helpful as rocket science is to make a spaceship. The amount of pressure used to form the burger so it stays together at the same time leaves room for the juices to stay in, bun to meat ratio, correct seasoning, quality of beef and fat percentage etc. and as I mentioned before it this stream cooking to the correct internal temperature which is one of the most difficult meats to do correctly. But these are the concerns of the chef as the customer should just enjoy without the necessity of knowing why it's so good, just that it is!

On the note of burgers with only half a bun - feel grateful. I had a "burger" in Phuket that was just the burger patty with two slices of cucumber.

IMHO Sizzler Steak House in KSK or Airport Plaza has a burger that equals anything that the best farang owned restaurants in Chiang Mai can offer.

Is it possible to make the picture bigger, or is this the limit? sad.png

Maybe they just couldn't figure out if you were American or English and were equally confused about a burger and a cumber sandwich

After trying several burgers in CM, I have to agree with the "Pickles" hamburger post it is very, very good, his corned beef & pastrami are in a class way ahead of anything this side of the U.S. Anybody who doesn't like a good burger must tell me why the whole world now has a burger (fish, chicken, vegetarian, pork) most are not what the expert burger lovers would classify as a real hamburger, The yanks must have gotten something right, as there are billions and billions sold in almost every country on the planet. I say if you don't like an authentic hamburger, then go eat your tofu or gongee then and stop yer bitc**ng.

What's to difficult to follow?..... Bunfight at the CM corral..... yank ex-pats drooling.... (brit taking the p***) whistling.gif .

Hey-ho! It's Friday...Let's live dangerously.

Apologies, guys, but there is a funny side to this thread (I think!)

I promise I will start a thread soon, then you can all get your revenge wink.png

i agree you are in thailand/chiangmai try the thai food first.then later on they are many burger and western places to eat in the town

And in the mean time if you still crave a burger suffer.

Personally I did not come here for Thai food or Western food. I came because I liked the city and the people and if I want a burger I eat one if I want Thai food I eat it.

Love Thai food & eat it most of the time.

But now & then a burger, pizza, or Mexican sounds good.

When I first came I thought I had to go to Burger King

about same as the states both in taste & price so not great.

As others mentioned Dukes by the river I tried that & it is very good.

The regular burgers are actually too big for me.

But the 99 baht 1/4 pounder is just right for me.

Nice that you get a choice of fries,Onion rings, Cole Slaw or Salad with it.

Salad is quite good & they have quite a few dressings

The 99 Baht burger with cheese is perfect for me too. Absolutely stuffed. Tried some of the full size burger a few times but had to hang my head in shame because I couldn't finish.

the best beef patty i ever have here is during my stay in psk hotel. flavorful, juicy and thick. unfortunately the bread is sweet, coleslaw and fries are pretty inedible

Burger threads are great as everyone can recommend and no one minds if every one has a taste of the best. People not so friendly if everyone has a taste of the best wife or girlfriend.
