Wi-fi & Wlan

Featured Replies

No difference at all. Wi-fi is just a kind of "nick-name" for WLAN.

As said already they are effectively the same. Specifically though Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) is the name of the alliance that certifies network devices. Originally meant to imply only 802.11b wireless networks, the alliance has expanded the use of the generic term to avoid confusion.

Short for wireless fidelity and is meant to be used generically when referring of any type of 802.11 network, whether 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11a, dual-band, etc. The term is promulgated by the Wi-Fi Alliance.

802.11a up to 54 Mbps, radio frequency 5 GHz

802.11b up to 11 Mbps, radio frequency 2.4 GHz

802.11g up to 54 Mbps, radio frequency 2.4 GHz
