Sql2000 On Win 7

Featured Replies

Anyone know how to make it work on Windows 7 ?

Big company here uses SQL 2000, all new products, complete parts lists and prices going back 20 years updated daily, need to check it most days sometimes many times a day. [well over 30,000 parts]

On this PC run Window 7 Ultimate editions, for a long time, has always said incompatibly issues,

I had to have XP installed on the laptop just to run this Company program, is a real pain for the past 2 years as many other companies have changed or use programs that do not open in XP..

Do I need Windows XP Mode or Windows Virtual PC ?? for a long time out and about have to take 2 laptops which is daft...... with all the 1000's of Google pages, still cannot work out how to do............. MUST also be in Thai

Help needed, please in simple terms

If you need to connect to a SQL database for read/update/inserts you can do it with SQL 2005/2008. But if you need a SQL Server 2000 install it on Windows 7 it was practically impossible for me, I had to install a Virtual Machine (VirtualBox) and there install Windows XP in order to install SQL Server 2000

I have W7 Home Edition with SQL 2005 and Virtual Machine Windows XP SQL 2000 Server.

Cheers

If your app isn't doing anything "outside of the box" in terms of SQL, you can try an upgrade. Backup your SQL 2000, then install SQL2005 or SQL 2008 and restore the backup into the SQL 2005 or 2008.

Usually, the DB's are backward compatible, so the app should work just fine. Give it a try.

Even doing the "upgrade in place" should be ok.

OK maybe not worded correct.

Big company here I need to open often....... uses SQL 2000,

I cannot install there program on Win 7, incompatibly issues..

= at home have to have the laptop with XP on just to open this Companies Server... everything else is done on PC Win 7...... when out have to take 2 laptops everywhere 1x Win 7 the other with XP just to open this Companies Server in SQL 2000.

Why don't you just install the free version of ms SQL 2008 R2 or 2012 and put your database in question in SQL 2000 compatibility mode?

We did this with a whole bunch of legacy db with sql89 joins.

You have to "open often." So a dual boot solution would be too slow? My main squeeze box right here will boot to XP Pro or Win 7 Ultimate - whichever I choose at a stop screen during the boot sequence.

Yep did that a few years ago with Visa/XP, worked well but nothing but a pain

Beats the heck out of carrying two laptops, LOL. I liked Kaspercat's ideas.

Maybe will try that again, last time got

Issues: authentication.....

Many items with odd characters not in Thai text, pages full of unreadable jumble
