If you just want to make a day-trip to Tachilek, you can go via Mae Sai. You don't need a visa for that. I am not sure you can stay a few days, somebody else will chip in. However, you cannot go inland.

If you really want to enter the country, you'll have to fly into Yangon or Mandalay and need to have a visa.

Dead easy. Fly direct from CNX to RGN on Air Bagan. Used to be 3 days a week. Check with travel agents on same side as Shangri La near the lights to the south.
