My husband and I are arriving in BKK at 12:55AM - where can we go until we can check in at our hotel? I don't think airport transfers are included in the hotel price and air link, buses etc. are not running - will we even be able to get a taxi at that hour? Is there anywhere at the airport we can crash for a couple hours even though we have gone through baggage claim, immigration, etc.? We are staying at the Siam Swana hotel.

You will be able to get a taxi. Maybe just go to your hotel and pay for an extra night?

There is a food-court at the airport, Magic Point, level 1, door #10.

Just grab a taxi and go where you like and arrive where you want ,it might cost you another night but you will wake up where you want to be and have breakfast and enjoy .

Cheers .

My wife and i have often stayed overnight at airports. Most airports have assisted passenger rooms and if you speak nicely to the airport staff, they will give you permission. These rooms are comfortable and often have tv,s.You can even try the assisted children,s room, as children on their own normally dont travel overnight.Nothing ventured nothing gained.

As has been stated a taxi is not a problem at that hour. You arrive at the tail end of the late night rush so you should clear immigration quickly and get your baggage and be at the taxi stand by 1:30am. A taxi to your hotel on Petchaburi rd will take all of 15-20 mins at that time so you could easily be in your room around 2am.

Now, do you really want to save a nights accom and not have a good sleep on your first night in BKK? Is it worth it? If money is tight you could stay at another hotel nearby in Pratunam for around 700 a night. But again unless there is some compelling issue to save $20- then just go with what you have and have a good nights sleep and enjoy your first day of your trip. :)

for the sake of 1400 baht just book the extra night and inform of late arrival. Easiest all round I would suggest.

Arrive take a Taxi, plenty available, job done.

SIAM SWANA HOTEL

So this means the security guard would let them in or is there someone at the reception desk present at this hour? The OP has to be sure, of course

As everyone says head to your hotel, don't mess about trying to save 1400 baht. Check in rest, sleep in and wake up ready to enjoy the city.

The advantage arriving at 0100 you'll zoom zoom into the city without any traffic.

Memories....

Some 20 years ago had flight delayed for technical reasons, landed DM airport at 03am, took taxi, hit my usual hotel 04am, no reservation, no problem.

We were hungry and had a look at the restaurant from the lobby when we checked in.

Restaurant in full swing, people having bottles of Johnny Walkers on their tables.

The city never sleeps.

I guess Siam Swana hotel will not be closed after midnight giggle.gif

Cool - wasn't sure if that area(Siam) is as bustling after hours as Khaosan(where I stayed my first time) or the more 'colorful' parts of Sukhumvit. Less than 3 months to go! biggrin.png

The airport has day rooms. No idea on price etc. but maybe an option. Also, plenty cheap rooms around hotel if you want a sleep. 300bt plus.

Siam Swana is a short taxi ride from RCA. If you clear immigration quickly you may be able to catch some after hours action there. :)

rolleyes.gif 12:55 a.m. is a peak tourist arrival time in Bangkok because of the time differences between Europe and the U.S.

For that reason many international flights arive and depart at "late night" hours at the airport.

There is a desk after you exit the immigration/customs that will get you metered taxis run by (I believe) the airport aurthority.

Metered taxis are also available outside the arrival area.

Do a bit of "negotiating" on the price with the driver for the best price. (They have a airport 50 baht charge they must pay to wait in queue for a fare and often wait for at least an hour before they do get a fare. But you can negotiate with them....they won't use the meter then.)

The "official" airport taxi desk won't negotiate the price....but they are more reliable. They will give you a reciept when you book the taxi.

At the time you arrive there will be many taxis willing to take you to your hotel. That is a busy time for international arrivals and drpartures.

If you want a place to relax and get a coffee or such, upstairs on the 3rd floor there are coffee shops and restaurants open 24 hours that will provide that.

The (in my opinion overpriced) StarBucks coffee chain has it's shop there also.

There are facilities at the airport....you just have to look around and follow the signs a bit,

And many are open 24 hours a day.

My advice... Don't cheap out on your 1st night in BKK and try to crash in the Airport, the airport is 24hrs, you won't find anywhere to sleep there either, I guess if you are trying to catch a flight out.

My suggestion ? spend the $10 - $15 on a Cab, go down to the Koh San Rd area, have a beer there, and then walk a few blocks over to Sor Ratchanaburi and spend $10 on a little room, get some sleep, sleep in, have a breakfast and then jump in a tuk tuk to your other hotel.

After being beat down on a long flight about the last think you want to be doing is sitting around like a cranky pants trying to sleep that airport.. if you are going to be cheap, try to save money on some other day, but there is nothing like kicking yourself in the butt the 1st night to make your life a little hell.

Have fun !

Yes, there is a place called Louis Tavern at the airport.

I believe it's still open, although I haven't stayed there in a few years.

As I recall they will provide a 6 hour stay room but not cheap.

Air-conditioned, showers, and comfy beds for short rest after long tiring plane journey.....reset your body clock.

It was (think still is) up on the 4th floor....may need to ask at airport information on arrival.

If you've just got off a 12 hour "cattle class" flight from Los Angeles (for example) that 6 hour break may be just what you need.

Believe you would be looking at around $100 per night though for that luxury.

But sometimes the comfort and rejuvenation factor might make it worthwhile?

Once I flew into Bangkok from Athens....over 48 hours without any real sleep....due to flight/plane delays.

That little luxury of a 6 hour sleep was well worth the money that time.

Yes, there is a place called Louis Tavern at the airport.

Day-rooms aren't really an option for the OP as these are air-side, in the international transit area, and require a departing boarding pass for entry.

Thanks, good idea - and you just answered my next question, will there be an ATM or exchange counter available at the airport at that hour - thumbsup.gif

there is about a million atms at the BKK airport, I always show up with Bhat pocket change, enough for a day or two as I can't be bothered with anything when i get there but changing into lighter clothes, and getting the heck somewhere I want to hang out.

I don't know your age, or your style, I love heading down to Soi Ratchanburi (spelling) not far from Koh San Road (the famous backpacker ghetto) there is a guesthouse bar that keeps serving all night and the have these nice Thai beds in the lobby, i have a nap on those, they will watch you bags for 30 bhat and even you can pay i think 30bhat for a shower

I always loved heading down there and just having a beer, just such a pretty little street and so lively 24hours and I really feel like I have arrived.
