Mr. Preecha is making PR plan to develop Thailand's international education system

Deputy Minister of Commerce PREECHA LAOHAPONGCHANA (ปรีชา เลาหพงศ์ชนะ) is speedily devising a public relations plan to develop the international education system in Thailand. The plan will encourage interested students to study in the country.

He presided over the opening ceremony of Thailand’s International Education Exhibition 2006. The Ministry of Commerce and the Department of Export Promotion jointly organized the event, and its purpose was to support the government’s policy of establishing Thailand as the education hub of Asia.

The exhibition aimed at providing details on Thailand’s international education system to interested students. Last year, 20,000 foreign students registered to study in Thailand’s educational institutes. The Deputy Minister of Commerce projected that the number of students will increase by 15% this year as Thailand’s educational fees are cheaper than other countries. He said that most foreign students come from China and the United States of America.

Mr. Preecha also viewed that the government should support educational facilities, and it should also provide skilled lecturers so that the country would be able to upgrade its international educational system.

Oh, lord....

And who was that "speedily devising" a public relations plan? By the COMMERCE Minister, of all things? I guess that's because they can't seem to keep an Education Minister in office longer than 2 months.

Just seems like another excuse for the government to take credit/get attention at a private event which has little to do with its accomplishments.

Given Thailands academic reputation and TOEfl ranking I'm sure students will be flocking here.

The foreigners will be able to buy a degree just like rich thais can.

Oops just re-read OP....its a PUBLIC RELATIONS campaign not an educational exercise so probably a few glossy brochures, maybe a website....but behind the facade nothing changes.
