What's Cheaper To Run On Fuel?

Featured Replies

I was debating this with a couple of mates where by one was saying it's cheaper to run a

large engined diesel suv or pick up 2.5 or 3.0,

and the other was saying it's cheaper to run a small engined hatchback like a fiesta 1.6 or a jazz 1.5

Obviously in Thailand, diesel is considerably cheaper than benzine or gasohol.

But

Which type of vehicle gives a better return on kilometres per baht in whether using

benzine or gasohol versus diesel?

Few more questions. What will your ride have to do, and how much do you value you and yours safety. ?

I'm thinking of the average fuel consumption for your money,

so city and motorway driving as an overall figure.

As for safety it's obvious what's best to drive, a Volvo! biggrin.png

any eco car will give around 20km per ltr so will be cheaper to run than a diesel suv

When you say eco car are you referring to something like the Jazz 1.5 or Fiesta 1.6 ?

Owners of either type will have different fuel consumption but the Australian standard fuel consumption figures for two examples should be a fair comparison. Real world figures may be different (presumably by a similar amount for both)

Example combined cycle figures work out to:

2WD Isuzu 3.0L manual diesel = 12.7km/L x 36baht/L = 2.4 baht / km

Fiesta 1.6L manual = 16.4km/L x 36 baht / L = 2.2 baht / km

They would be virtually equal if the Fiesta was using gasohol 95 E10.

Then again the Fiesta diesel would kill both.

Have a couple of beers and check the calculation.

Let say diesel is 30 Baht/L and Gasohol 95 is 39 Baht/L...

12.7=2.36

16.4=2.37

...I'd rather drive Isuzu for convenience...

Nissan March 1.8 Bt per KM

Honda City CNG 0.70 Bt. per km

Mitsubishi Triton CNG 0.87 Bt.per km

Honda wave 125 0.58 Bt. per km

Example combined cycle figures work out to:

Fiesta 1.6L manual = 16.4km/L x 36 baht / L = 2.2 baht / km

They would be virtually equal if the Fiesta was using gasohol 95 E10.

Thanks for that info, it pretty much sums up why both guys were adamant they were correct,

because both type of vehicles give out near the same cost per klm.

But, that's only when comparing the diesels with the use of gasohol. Not benzine 91 or 95
