BANGKOK, Oct 21 - Thai rice export figure decreased 44 percent in quantity and 32 percent in value from January to September 2012.

The export volume was recorded at 5 million tonnes with a value of Bt106 billion.

Thai Rice Exporters Association reported the figures for Jan-Sep compared them to the same period last year which saw the export quantity of 9 million tonnes with a value of Bt156 billion.

Such reduction came despite the price of exported rice at US$678/tonne on average, 18 percent higher year-on-year.

During Jan-Sep, the top five importers of Thai rice were Nigeria at 904,000 tonnes, Iraq at 545,000 tonnes, Indonesia at 310,000 tonnes, Ivory Coast at 299,000 tonnes, and South Africa at 276,000 tonnes respectively.

In September alone, Thailand exported 540,000 tonnes of rice at Bt12 billion in value, while in August the figure was lower at 508,000 tonnes and Bt11 billion respectively.

According to Thai Rice Exporters Association, Thailand is in an unfavourable position while in the normal rice market, compared to competitors from India, Pakistan and Vietnam, Thai rice prices are higher than its competitors by around US$120-140/tonne.

Regarding the October tendency, the association forecast rice export would reach 600,000 tonnes. Thai rice exporters are to sell white rice to Iraq and Japan, according to previously bidding contracts.

Parboiled rice tends to be more popular among some buyers particularly in Nigeria.

However, Thai rice exporters are still to face fierce competition from Vietnam and India in the last quarter. (MCOT online news)

Yay for the PTP-led coalition-government's amazing achievements in boosting Thai rice-exports ! laugh.png

Indeed those figures and costings allied with quality standards do not bode well for the rice exporting industry in Thailand..

Is this serious?giggle.gif

All Thais should just refuse to pay their taxes (the few one that actually pays any taxes) to this Robbing party government.

Another triumph for the government's "economic dream team". Woo hoo! Pure genius.

Well now they have 4 million tonnes of rice to store, plus the crop increases over last year. What to do with it?

An idea, give it to the poor - 5kg of rice per month to anybody claiming to be poor. That way they can F#ck the domestic market as well.

'Thailand is in an unfavorable position ...' Now, there's an understatement.

All seemed good in theory. Only problem is, the rest of the world's theory may be that it might be better to start buying it elsewhere.

This article was useful in that it made me decide to go buy a lottery ticket ending in 449.

The purpose of this policy was a cash handout to the rice barons in exchange for continued politic support of Thaksin. It is straight up theft of the treasury involving hundreds of billions of baht rebranded as an agricultural subsidy. The failure of the policy is irrelevant to them, the people who needed to get paid have already made their money.

Strange figures, as the total export figure is all but half of what the government alone claims already to have sold in government to government deals.

The premier emphasised that her government did sell rice through government-to-government deals to other countries including some ASEAN countries. Initially, more than 8 million tonnes of rice have been delivered. The details, however, could not be disclosed

And does anyone think the puppet master cares about 'Thailand' or his 'red' supporters? And if the PM does not wake up and cut off the cancer controlling her - she will be down on record and remembered as the weakest excuse of a PM the country has ever experienced. Just another weak individual being controlled by a criminal condoning a public failure she cannot explain away.

Don't be impatient. Very soon now the government will provide details on all their accomplishments in the first year. This will include how all farmers got rich, rice got expensive and money was made. Most likely the government roadshow 'reconciliation forums' will touch on this assuming there will be time left after hammering the pesky Democrats who need to be eradicatedreconciled.rolleyes.gif

The real policy in a nutshell; it's nothing more than a public coffers plundering raid. Take as much as possible and run away when the whole thing implodes.

Right now that's what it looks like

Actually this is good news...in my view.....They have created a new Hub

The sad part is it hasn't imploded yet. They are going to rape the taxpayers for another year.

Money that could well be spent on the all but defunct medical system. As it is they have the skeleton of a system with meat on one or two toes.

Next I think the government will probably choose Suvarnabumi as their next cargo for stocking the UNSOLD rice, when Don Muang Airport declined.... cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif
