Hi boys & girls,

I'm going to thailand in December for nearly 2 months, 8th trip so I'm familiar with the whole pay as you go happy/12call situation, but now is the first time I'm going with a smartphone (Samsung Galaxy Ace 2). As I'm only going for 2 months I want a pay as you go setup with internet connection. Who has the best connection, most competitive price, 2g or 3g, any other things I should take into account (wifi access)?. Where is a good place in BKK to get some unbiased information on this? unless I get a definitive answer from you guys here, I might still have to make up my mind on the spot.

There are two versions of the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2, the I8160L supports 850/190/2100 MHz 3g while the I8160 supports 900/1900/2100 MHz 3G. So the former would work with TrueMove H and DTAC (Happy) while the latter would would with AIS/One-2-Call.

So depending on your model your choice(s) may be limited.

I suspect you may have the I8160, just a guess of course, so AIS/One-2-Call may be your only real option?

It would help if you share any details re:your location(s), budget, monthly data requirements and any voice/text requirements.

hi I've got the second model, so my only option would be AIS/one2call if I understand correctly. I would be going with top up cards as I'm only on holiday and don't need a contract, any difference in sim cards I can buy (speed, costs?) My locations will be BKK, Pattaya, Ayuthaya and the Khon Kaen/Udon region (including 4 days in a tiny village where I have experienced reception to be sketchy).

had a look on the one2call website, I think this might be the one for me: http://www.ais.co.th/12call/en/simcard-one2call-3g-netsim-dubble.html

I have a 250 data limit at home which I'm not exceeding, so a one time 500mb purchase should last me for about 2 months, will be staying in lots of hotels with free wifi too, so that should be ok.

Any place in BKK recommended to purchase these as I suspect 7eleven will be difficult to explain my requirements in English?

You can pretty much buy any One-2-Call SIM, and then add value, then choose a promotion and data plan. You can buy a SIM anywhere, mobile phone shop (maybe more than 1 million here), 7/11.

Data plans run for 30 days, so a 500 MB plan (250 baht) would last for 30 days. If you go over your allotment you pay extra so be careful.

alright, I'll just get the simcard then (I might have an old 12call card here, but that might not work with 3G? I'm a complete idiot in these things...) and then activate my data plan according to the codes on the website, thanks a lot for the info...

If the old sim is still active (they expire after a period of non use, it'll work just fine for 3g.

Load enough credit on and punch in the proper code for your package.

You'll get messages from them when you reach your data limit...
