Hi all,

Just been offered a job in Yangon,

I know nothing about the country and hope that someone can send me some links or give give me the heads up i.e. Cost of living ,What the people are like towards English

The stuff I need to know.

Cheers

O What’s the relationship like between Myanmar and Thailand. I ask this becasue my wife is Thai. (Not told her yet)

Based on my experiences when I visited Rangoon (I prefer to call it Rangoon)

twelve months ago as a side trip from Thailand, I found the food prices pretty

comparable to that in Thailand.

As for hotel prices, and I presume you would need one initially, they are dearer

than in Thailand and the services not that great.

As for the language if that is what you were asking, the level of proficiency in

English is a tad better than the Thais.

Thanks for that.

Its more the cost of living I need tbh, I'm not going to teach but its good to get a jist on the language level.

I have found out a lot over the last few days thanks to members PMs and Google. Not sure if the wife will be able to join me because of the visa's. Not happy about that but I will cross that bridge when things are finalized.

But please if anyone has anything to tell me however small please don't hesitate .

Cheers

There's quite a large and lively Thai community in Yangon. I'd suggest she goes to the Embassy events to socialise and make friends, or both of you go out to some of the higher class establishments. Most expats have Thai or Thai speaking partners so she should get along just fine.
