Do European Have To Worry About Bird Flu ( Yet )?

Hi all,

I just wonder if people (on the forum who are base in Europe} still eat chicken? How does the bird flu news influrence your decision on food shopping?

Now I am currently in the Netherlands, everything seem ok. The different between now and then is that on every eggs now has a date stamp. I dont really know what that means but never saw it before. People here are still buying chicken as usual.

Do you still eat chicken? what about eggs?

We are still eating chicken here in Ireland (at least I am).

I have noticed the supermarkets are taking various steps though. One has cut prices by 25% on some chickens and added 50% extra free on chicken legs and stuff like that. Another has put up notices under the chickens saying that they are all sourced from safe sources in Ireland.

I think organic farmers are having fun in all this. Organic chickens at €15.99 are selling well. Actually that's probably the price that chicken should be, as long as the quality is high. We want to pay €4.99 for a chicken and we don't even question what it takes to grow a chicken for that price.

Bird flu got quite a lot of coverage here, perhaps more than it got last year when it was in Holland. One butcher had a spicy chicken for sale called "Thai Adventure", and he said it wasn't selling at all, and that he wasn't eating chicken. I have been eating chicken almost every day for the last few weeks. 50% extra free! It's the cheapest meat you can buy.

Now I remember why I really first went to LOS in the first place...not sex not beer but for the food

Here in Holland the people are just like the Thais they talk about it and they will forget the whole story by next week.

We had it here last year and everybody is still eating chicken (including me).

But the prices are higher now than a couple of weeks ago.

Its even more expensive now than pig meat.

But everybody is still talking about the mad cow disease and the swine flu? and thet's history for now (I hope).
