naka Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Not sure if that is a function of the website or the location of the hotel. For instance when I booked a hotel in Thailand with asiatravel.com the entire cost was charged when booking, but when using the same site for a hotel in Malaysia I was advised to pay the hotel desk at the end of my stay. Not sure why it works that way. Naka.

phuketsiam Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Its to do with the relationship between the internet company and the hotel, in general if you pay for the full stay upfront you can get better rates, but often cancellations are more expensive.
Khun Yak Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Depending what type of accomodation you are looking for. For example www.hostels.com will just charge you a deposit of 10% upon your booking and you need to pay the rest upon arrival or departure. But if you want to go for normal hotels, try to make the effort to find out the contact details of the hotel itself. Once you book with them directly, either by phone or by email, most of them do not require a deposit or they will just ask you for a credit card as a guarantee but do not charge it. (just in case you dont arrive they might charge a penalty). Some of the hotels might even offer you cheaper rates once you contact them directly or they will match the price you've seen on the net because like this they save the commission (at least 10%) for the intermediate... Enjoy travelling to/in Thailand, KY

Odd - they ask for a credit card to secure reservation, but never been charged anything until I check out of said hotel.
cdnvic Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 http://hotels.thaivisa.com/ There's links to local hotels at the top of all the local forums. cv
naka Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Have personally used, asiatravel.com, sawasdee.com and precisionreservations.com was happy with all of them. Naka.
skydigger Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 Don't use hotels.com I used them for a booking in florida. Reservation was paid for but never made with the hotel. The clerk at the front desk told me they regularly have screw ups from online booking. I even called to confirm my booking and it still got lost.

Stayed somewhere else in the end but how did you like it there? (might be slightly off topic)
