Local Currency.

There is no restriction on the amount of Thai baht bank notes that may be brought into the country. A person traveling to Thailand's bordering countries including Vietnam is allowed to take out up to THB 500,000 and to other countries up to THB 50,000, respectively, without authorization.

We have just left Thailand after my hubby finished a contract. We had to electronically transfer the money out and even that was a hassle. It will really depend on how much you want to take out. You could take out more and carry it but risk getting stopped

Why take cash Baht out of Thailand? Apart from in nearby poorer countries like Cambodia and Laos, you will probably get a very poor exchange rate when changing it as it has no use elsewhere.

If I wanted to take cash out of Thailand I would change it to some major currency first.

Convert the baht into $ or £ before you leave. $20k limit per trip.

Why do you not mention Euro ?

No particular reason. You could convert the baht into any currency before you go with equivalent $20k max.

Anto. Isn't the Euro losing value ? 12 months ago the Euro was par with £ Sterling GBP One for one. Now its something like 1.28 euro to the £ Sterling so why would you want to convert it to an ailing currency ? Surely conversion to the $USD or £Sterling makes more sense ?

Actually it's more that the GBP that has gained in value against the EUR over the last year or so, having lost about 30% of it's value against the EUR during the previous few years. Not so long ago it was nearly 1.5 EUR to the GBP.

Will i get a better exchange rate for my ฿ to $ in Thailand, or is it better to take it to the states and exchange it there?
