Depends on what type of Visa you get.

If you get a single entry Tourist Visa ... then you can only enter once on that style of Visa.

If, however you pay more and get a double entry Visa then you can re-enter the Kingdom on that Visa.

Last week I picked up my single entry Tourist Visa. In my country, the double entry Visa was twice the price, but the same application form.

Hope that helps.

DentBalmer, if you get a re-entry permit from your local immigration office before you leave Thailand you can return to Thailand during the validity period of your permission to stay. On arrival in Thailand, you will again get the same expiration date for your stay as you had before you left Thailand. Make sure to write the re-entry permit number in the visa field of your arrival card.

If you purchase a single entry tourist visa, it is good for one entry during the period that the visa is valid, usually 3 months from the date it is issued. On entry into Thailand, it is usually stamped USED and is no longer valid. On entry you will be granted 60 days permission to stay. You can extend your stay 30 days more at immigration in Thailand (TM7 form + 1900 baht). If you want to exit/reenter during your stay you should purchase a re-entry permit. A single is 1000 baht, a multiple is 3800 baht. With out the re-entry permit, if you exit/reenter you will only be given a visa exempt entry (15 days by land, 30 days by air). If you have the re-entry permit, you will be granted permissionto stay to the expiration of your previous permission to stay. Make sure that you put the re-entry permit number on the arrival card when you enter in the "visa number" place , not the original visa number. CHECK THE STAMPS THAT THEY PUT IN YOUR PASSPORT BEFORE YOU LEAVE IMMIGRATION, THEY HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO MAKE MISTAKES.

If you purchase a double or triple entry tourist visa, you can enter the number of times stamped on the visa during the validity period of the visa, it is valid for either 3 or 6 months depending where it is purchased. Each time that you enter Thailand you will be given a "new" 60 day period to stay which can be extended for 30 days.

In your situation, I would purchase a double entry visa rather than a single entry just to avoid the hassle of having to go to immigration to purchase a re-entry permit. It is slightly more expensive but, in my opinion, well worth the cost!

Hey Maestro ... may I have some clairification.

Am I interpreting your post correctly?

If you arrive on a Single Entry Tourist Visa, if you then get a 're-entry permit' then you can return back into Thailand for the balance of your original 60 day single entry Tourist Visa?

Can you get this 're-entry permit' at the major Airports?

What is the cost?

Is it worth the hassle considering that you get 30 days anyway arriving through the Airport?

Thanks in advance.

You kep your original permisison to stay date. A re-entry permit does not add the days you were out of the country when you come back.

If you arrive on 1 November and have a permission to stay till 1 january and leave for 1 week on 15 November and come back on 22 November, when you come back you get the permission to stay till 1 january.

Best is to get a re-entry permit in advance at an immirgation office. The fee is 1,000 baht (at the airport 1,200 baht). There is also a multiple re-entry eprmit for 3,800 baht.

It can be useful as you still have the normal 30 day extension option available which you would not have with a 15 or 30 day visa exempt entry.

If there is any chance at all of wanting to leave the country I think I would get a 2 entry which would be the same price as the re-entry permit but without having to make a trip to immigration.

Thanks for all the info!

I have 1 other question... Say I have a 60 day visa... yet when I arrive in thailand I only show my passport which gives me 30 days. Can I then go on a small trip with my girlfriend to say vietnam and come back into thailand after and start using the 60 day tourist visa?

Or is this tourist visa somehow stuck into the passport?

It will be a full page stamp/sticker and you should enter the visa number on the arrival card, but some people on here report that they have in the past got away with not using the visa, and obtaining the 30day exemption instead,by not putting the visa number on the arrival card and the immigration officer not noticing the visa.
