Two major Japanese corporations, paper maker Oji Holdings Corp and home builder Sumitomo Forestry Co, are conducting a joint study of Burma’s forestry sector, according to a report by The Japan Times. The report said that the two firms have already launched a feasibility study on tree planting in the country and are considering building a wood processing plant in Burma. Burma’s minister for environmental conservation and forestry, Win Tun, was in Tokyo last week, where he vowed to support private initiatives to ensure the sustainable development of the country’s woodlands.
