Cursor Mind Of Its Own

Featured Replies

When i am typing on the Internet every few words the cursor changes position by its self or disappears

Does anyone know how to fix this problem

Thanks in advance for any help

when i click on any subject it starts rolling

Dodgy mouse would be my first guess. Virus would be 2nd. Given the limited info you've provided.

Your not using a laptop with pad turned on so palms or thumbs touch it during typing are you?

Thanks i think you are right its the mouse, i took my computer to someone to have a look at it

he left a receiver for a wireless mouse in the side of computer and now i have removed it the

computer is working fine

Many thanks

Turn off auto history search in the browser. Another thing that can cause it to appear to do this is typing before the page is fully loaded over a slow connection and the script r-sets the page as elements are loaded.

So you had an wireless mouse receiver on your computer?

If your wireless mouse is using 2.4GHz frequency, it might pick up noise from close by sources.

Out of curiosity, did you or someone near do anything following:

- Use microwave oven

- Place an mobile phone or wireless home phone close to the computer

- Play Wii or other playstation

- Use any other device which is using the same frequency?

None of those things, i have removed the wireless mouse receiver which was not mine

and everything seems to be working properly

Peter this advice may not be needed but would be safest to apply. The device may not have been a mouse wireless even if it looked like one. It may have enabled remote access to your computer. If it was my computer I would change all computer passwords and any bank credit card passwords which have been used on the computer. I would also give the computer a full virus scan. A wireless mouse adaptor on its own should not have made your cursor move.

Wise advice, definitely worth checking, but I'd be more inclined to think the guy he took it to hates trackpads as much as I do and used his own mouse while he was working on it, then forgot to remove the dongle (easy to do especially if it's miniscule like a Logitech Nano). You're right it "shouldn't" have affected the built in mouse if the wireless mouse was not present but who knows, if it was a 'cheap' wireless mouse reciever prone to spurious rf interference.

I have two - the Microsoft one goes completely nuts when the battery in the mouse is low... The Logitech's rock solid.

Recently Microsoft updates installed "Microsoft Hardware USB Mouse & keyboard" - I had to uninstall as it overrode my mouse preferences and hyperactive mouse resulted as described. Check program settings s/b listed if this is problem.
