[Myanmar] Thai Govt Approves Plan For Rice Partnership

The cabinet of Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has approved a plan proposed by the Commerce Ministry to develop a rice trade partnership with Burma, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam, according to a report by The Bangkok Post. The ministry’s proposal involves the creation of a rice trade zone with Thailand’s neighbors in order to stabilize international rice prices, according to deputy government spokesman Pakdihan Himathongkam. Thailand is the world’s number one exporter of rice,  shipping out as much as 3.7 million tonnes in the first six months of this year.
