Does anybody know if the new Vigo A/T is a 4 or 5 speed? The Toyota Thailand website shows a 5-speed, there are some web sources claiming that the new models have a 5 A/T.

When I placed an order last week, the dealer claimed it was a 4 A/T. Searching the web reveals that a lot of dealer sites list it a 4-speed. I don't really trust the dealer to know which way is up, so they may well have wrong info.

I am a little concerned that I may be in-line for an older model. Seems like a 5 A/T might be better on fuel than the 4, and could be worth it to wait a little bit. Anybody bought one recently?

As of the last minor change (August 2012) all AT VIGO's are 5 speed. They also have improvements to ride quality, better noise insulation, improved power (171HP/360Nm up from 163/343), better fuel efficiency and some other little changes. Oh and slightly higher prices wink.png

Thanks for the answers guys. I am certain that the test driver I drove was the new model, and they told me that what I ordered was the latest model. That's why I was suspicious that they mentioned 4-speed, and still had literature referencing that. My bet is that they just don't know. As with most purchases here, you can't count on the Thai sales-person to actually know what they're selling. I'll verify before I buy (if the Toyota arrives first), but sounds like a case of uninformed sales-people, no surprise there.

Sad, but also quite likely. Still, it's def. worth checking before taking delivery..

I am about to take delivery of a new Champ 4x4 3.0G tomorrow, upon inspecting the car this afternoon, there is a label next to the gear lever that says D4. Does any one know if this signifies it is only a 4 speed auto, looking at the brochures they say it is 5 speed but the trim says it 4. Any owners who have purchased one recently can help verify for me?

Don't know about stickers but the shift lever will show 4 or 5 gears. Don't accept it unless it has a 5 gear shift.

If you look it doesn't show 4 or 5 gears yours being a 4 speed shows L-2-3-D. a 5 speed will show L-2-3-4-D. It doesn't show a 4 or 5 for final drive.

For the benefit of the Uneducated.Early Auto Boxes were referred to as 4 Speed, This meant 3 Forward gears and one Reverse. The American Hydro Matic and David Hobs British Mecha Matic . Wilson Pre Selctors made a similar reference as to its opperation.

D is the same as 5. Counting down it says D, 4, 3, 2 and L L is for low but means 1st.

I have the new 5 speed auto and when I would turn left and go down a steep road it would slip as if it was in neautral. I took it to Toyota Pattaya for the first 1000km service and told the mechanic there what the problem was and he replied " thats normal". I then said so if I was driving the car off road I wouldnt be able to move cause the gears would slip everytime I wanted to turn left down a slope. His next stupid reply was he asked me if I had it in 4x4, and I replied why would I have it in 4x4 on a main road? Starting to lose my rag with him I asked my wife to deal with this clown and tell him to sort it out.

Why couldnt he of just said OK we will have a look at it for you, check the oil and plug the laptop in and check all the parameters are correct? Whatever they did it was fine after I complained but why the BS before hand I do not know.

Coming up to 20,000km now and its started to stay in 2nd gear for too long and doesnt drop down in to 1st without the engine starting to labour. How am I going to explain that to him?

Better noise insulation? One would think in 2013 with all the technology out there cars would be silent by now. How long does it take to properly insulate a car.
