Hi, does anyone have a direct link to the rule regarding the 30 days under consideration for the extension of a Visa based on a Thai wife.

replies appreciated.

I don't think it is in any document that has been made available to the public since it is some internal police order or procedure that goes back many years.

Similarly I do not think there is any rule that immigration have to grant the application there and then.

There probably is some procedural rule that the extension must be approved by an official with the authority to do so. In the case of 'marriage' extension the staff in the local office are not so authorised so have to give 'under consideration'.

Quite a few years back all 1 year extensions had to be passed up the chain of command for approval and everyone had an 'under consideration' stamp. Then in the case of marriage extensions that could take up to 6 months before final approval was given.

In direct reply to the op I cannot remember ever coming across such a rule in writing.

The requirement has been decision by high level official panel for such extensions which does not meet every day so an under review period has been policy to allow time for this process. It used to average 40-45 days but then was standardized as 30 days for a period until flooding last year caused a longer period in many cases. Now it seems to range in the 30-60 day area.

Retirement is a local decision so can be done immediately.

I was assured by my local office it would be 30 days as 18 days after that I go on holiday abroad.

Actually the German Embassy questioned this when my wife applied for a Schengen Visa for the wife of an EU National

When the visa extension is done in Phuket the paperwork is normally back within 14 days (without holiday days ).

So the 30 Day under consideration is more then enough.

My most recent extension was approved by Immigration Region 4 headquarters located in Korat 20 days after application date.

My report back date was 30 days after my previous extension ran out. I think most of the long report back dates posted are because most offices now start the 30 days on that date instead of application date.

Guys, I just bought tickets and realised I may screw up my Non O.

My 3 month extension expires on 19 June while I have a stamp that says:

Application for 1 year extension is under consideration. Please contact local office on 21 June. ( I applied on 22 May)

Does this stamp allow me be abroad until 20 June? I clearly have 3 days more on top of my previous extension.

You would have to obtain a re-entry permit with the same 21st date and arrive before that date (and likely explain why you need the one day stay (extension) rather than 30 day visa exempt entry but have seen reports of people doing. I would not do myself as flights are a bit unreliable and if had just gone to the effort to extend would plan to stay put during the review process. How you count 19 to 21 as three extra days is not really clear to me..
