[Myanmar] Suu Kyi Named Unaids Ambassador

Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi has been appointed an ambassador of UNAIDS, the UN’s program for combating on HIV and AIDS, according to a report by AFP. “It is a great honor to be chosen as a champion for people who live on the fringes of society and struggle every day to maintain their dignity and basic human rights,†the Nobel Peace Prize laureate said on Tuesday. Suu Kyi has been has been named UNAIDS Global Advocate for Zero Discrimination and will work to “eliminate stigma and discrimination†against people suffering from the disease.
