Thai Law, If Motorist Kills My Gf's Dog , Etc

Somewhere back in my older posts I made comments on a similar situation but can't remember the full details now.

There is a law regarding this and other unrestrained animals on roads.

Basically if an animal is run over and killed on the road it's the animal owners fault. Any damage to vehicles or injuries is the responsibility of the animal owner. Tied in with this are restrictions on when cattle owners can herd their animals out to pasture and back.

Good info - thanks.

I don't think the cow-herds have read it though !!

My dog loves chasing cars and especially motorbikes.

I think you are being funny here, but seriously, when I ride my bike, pedal bike, I keep two large stones in my basket, and many a time when a dog chased me, I did a U turn and walloped it with the stone, the second one was in case I missed the first time which wasn't often.

Maybe you should try that on the owners.

I agree that it's a problem here and one I'm closely involved with. My gf had 9 dogs until late last year when one died, so now she's got 8. some are no trouble at all but there is one who tends to chase and some of the others just get in the way. We're having a wall and fence put round the property now to stop the problem. The trouble is they don't seem to know how to train dogs, most likely because they never try. At this stage training 8 dogs together is a bit of a big job. The gf's mother is the worst because she just talks to them constantly when they go up to her on the assumption I think that they have a perfect understanding of the Thai language.

In the rural areas it's just the way it is I think. Most dogs aren't a problem where I am. They're Ok unless they have a territorial dispute and start running around. The dogs that is, not the Thais.

I don't think the OP gave enough information. Did the driver hit the dog when there was no need to? I would have thought his gf would have a better idea of the law here assuming she's Thai of course.
