Thailand Welcomes Palestine Status In United Nations

How many people of Palestine are able to travel freely to Thailand and enjoy being amongst tourists from all corners of the Earth. Where are the stats for Palestinian tourists to Thailand.? Has anybody met them in Thailand?

How many Palestian's from Gaza get to holiday in Thailand?

How many Israelies holiday in Thailand?

No Middle eastern country is in the top 20 most visited countries to Thailand in 2012.

Before recognition of Palestine by Thailand, I'm not sure how Palestinian travelers would be categorized.

Palestinians come from Gaza, the west bank, and various countries of the world, like Chile.

Palestinians speak Arabic so how would you easily differentiate them from other Arabic speaking tourists?

Obviously there are lots of Israeli tourists to Thailand, but still Israel doesn't make the top 20 (so some number under 134,000 visitors).

Few. Lots of them in Europe, though. Along with Iraqis, Afghans, Lebanese, Persians etc. The state of war of the US and Israel against the Muslims shovels them to Europe in the millions. Funny detail is that the same people who endorse those wars, or policies of Israel later on warn of the imminent Muslim takeover of Europe.

Thailand's decision was predicated on its need to retain the favour of its energy suppliers and to ensure the Gulf State big wigs are kept happy.

Not really. Saudi Arabia and Kuwait are Israel's friends. Money is above religion.

I await Thailand to announce their support for an independent Karen nation along the western border and extending from Mae Sariang over towards Wat Chan. I also expect Thailand to pressure China to leave Tibet and to also support an independent Kurdish state. But it is just so much easier to just join the bandwagon and jump on the Jews.

It is a step in the proper direction for Thailand; to cast a welcome to Palestine's new status in the U.N.

Maybe Israel will call for seperate state in South

Actually the question is whether those contributing to this thread supporting the UN motion, whether they also call for an independent state in the South of Thailand. The question was asked earlier but answer comes there none. Now I wonder why that is?

Maybe it's because this question doesn't deserve a reply. Like Israel, Southern Thailand is usurped land, but the Thais didn't do to the Malays what Israel is doing to the Palestinians.

Israel has many more important matters to deal with, closer to home. For Israel to call for an independant state in Southern Thailand,as You have sujested,is an idea that will not happen. Thus the silence. How many Israelies(or Brits) even know about S.Thailand, never mind the politics there?

One would assume that the expats contributing to this thread do.

I suggest you read Achaan Thongchai's book Siam Mapped in order to understand the falseness of your premise that the south is "usurped land". But rest assured that if there were to be regular suicide bombings in the markets and night clubs in Bangkok that the Thai government's response would closely mirror the Israeli reactions towards the Palestinians. There really are few alternative responses.

From my reading the British logic for sanctioning the continued Thai occupation of some of the provinces in Malaya was the perceived value of Thailand as a friendly buffer against the French in Indochina. Remember that the British and the French, at about that time, had divided up most of North Africa and the Middle East and were in constant competition at the geopolitical level. The Anglo-Siamese Treaty of 1909 that formally transferred the territory of the Southern provinces to Thai sovereignty certainly was not agreed to by the resident majority, Malays, so what's your point?

The point was to have people read the book Siam Mapped to see the view from a Southeast Asian perspective of "borders", how those indigenous perspectives of borders have changed over time, and to note to the term "usurped" was, in my most humble opinion, not a correct term to use. I do not disagree that the southern provinces represent an irredentist population, but given the indigenous thinking of that era by the Thai and Malay authorities, the usage of the term usurp is simply incorrect, although it might be a term used by outsiders with little understanding of how the local people perceived borders over 100 years ago. As for the resident majority, Southeast Asia was not exactly a haven for democracy back in 1909 and the opinion of the resident majority, be they Malays in the south or Lao in the northeast, was simply not relevant during that period of time.

So, on the day the UN grants observer status to Palestine, Israel announces it will build a further 3,000 homes in occupied Palestine. And Netanyahu keeps up the Orwellian double speak of "wanting peace". Stealing the land of your enemy is not known to be a successful strategy for settling conflicts. It would be helpful if the US and the diminishing number of Israeli allies would point this out to the intransigent Israeli government, who seem unable to even maintain a pretense that they want a sincere dialogue leading to peace. It does appear that the Palestinians are correct - Israel does not want peace, only land.

The U.S. HAS spoken out against the new west bank settlements:
"We believe these actions are counterproductive and make it harder to resume direct negotiations or achieve of a two state solution," Vietor said. "Direct negotiations remain our goal and we encourage all parties to take steps to make that easier to achieve."

Talk is cheap. Everyone knows that the US will not DO anything.

Congratulations on the Thais voting for the admission of Palestine, unlike the Australians that cravenly abstained. Now they are on the security council, wanna guess how they'll vote on any Palestinian related matters?
