PHUKET: -- From Phuket, reports are emerging of a murder investigation which has been instigated following the discover of a foreign man, thought to be of western origin, who had been either dumped or drowned in a Pond.

After the grim discovery by local residents, in the Patong Hill area, Police and forensics were quickly on the scene as the man was found tied up with rope and wrapped in garbage bags.

He had suffered head trauma and been stabbed multiple times in the head, torso and ankles, according to sources.

The identity of the man is so far unknown, however police have described him as a “westerner”, aged 40-50 years old, 6 ft tall, well built, (at approx 90 Kgs), and slightly balding.

"who had been either dumped or drowned in a Pond."

Well, which one is it? Most people who have stab wounds and are found in a bag don't typically die from 'drowning'. Jeeze.

It says in the article he was a long termer in Phuket but no-one knows his Identity, why not try going to the Immigration department, if they are like mine they now have pictures of people who visit the office to facilitate easier processing of different requirements.

stabbed multiple times in the head, torso and ankles

This is possibly a bad translation with the original source saying the victim's Achilles tendons had been cut. If so, this a "message wound". It says that the victim tried to walk away with someone's cash or property, or otherwise ran out on some arrangement.

There are reports of a missing American surfer on another site.

He seems to fit the description of this unidentified body.

I hope you're wrong. But, I think you're right.

Unidentified foreigner found tied up, dead in Patong Hill rubber plantation

Phuket Gazette

PHUKET: -- The body of an unidentified foreigner was found in a rubber plantation on Patong Hill tied up and wrapped in a black plastic bag yesterday afternoon.

“The body was that of a Caucasian man. A plastic bag covered the top half of his body and he was found face down on the ground. His face had obviously been struck with a heavy object and there were several stab wounds in his back,” Thung Thong Police Superintendent Kraithong Chanthongbai said.

The man was between 175 and 185 centimeters tall, about 90 kilograms and in his 30s, police said.

Police suspect the man had been dead for about three days before the local villager discovered the body 2 kilometers from the nearest road on a 10 rai rubber plantation in Kathu.

“The man was probably murdered somewhere else and then dumped here for hiding,” said Col Kraithong.

Police believe there will be several suspects in the case, citing the fact that whoever dumped the body probably was familiar with the plantation and had access to a four-wheel drive vehicle in order to get the body so far away from the nearest road.

“Where the body was found is an isolated location, it is not a surprise someone tried to hide the body there,” said Col Kraithong.

“The body was transferred to Patong hospital for further examination,” he added.

Another disagreement that got lost in translation on the island of crime and death.

For sure he got involved with the wrong people.

Business conflict? Unwise to mess with the locals rice bowl...

Interesting speculation. Here is more: lower leg wounds are often defensive wounds as the victim falls on his back and uses his legs to fend off an attacker.

He could have been stabbed, dumped in the pond and then drowned. They will need a post mortem to find the cause of death. This has happened in other cases around the world. It is obviously still too early to know the exact cause of death. So perhaps you should keep quiet instead of making nonsense comments.

a blow to the head and multiple stab wounds, bound and stuffed in plastic is "execution style"?

I wonder if he was tied afterwards for the convenience of transporting.

for some reason I thought "execution style" was a shot to the back of the head in a true cowardly fashion.

Glad I visited Phuket a few years ago now.

Happy living in Bangkok with no ambition whatsoever to return.

I am sure it will have no effect on tourism though.

Just that there is much nicer and safer places in Thailand to holiday.

Phuket does appear rather regularly I have to agree.

Then again so does Pattaya.

Bangkok is not exactly a safe haven either, just depends where you live! Exactly the same in Phuket and Pattaya.

It also gets more dangerous when you are involved with criminals. I am not saying this is definitely the case here as we don't yet know. just that they quote "execution style".

The vast majority of crimes we read about involve people involved themselves. In this respect thailand is no different to any other country.

The majority of violent crime is always in the most densly populated areas.

I fear Puket's reputation is becoming tarnished. It appears that tourist are still not afraid of travelling to Puket. Just curious, I wonder how Puket's crime rates stand with other major tourist destinations? coffee1.gif

I wish, that for ones, an article would be propperly researched, before it comes out. 50,40,30, pond, rubber plantation, executed...in a sack...

R.I.P. to the victim
