Frozen in time: British expats losing out on pensions in Thailand
There will be occasional proof of life checks, particularly as you get older. Just to be sure that they're not still paying a pension out to someone who's died. I remember there was a case in Japan where a newspaper called up to talk to a woman who was supposedly the oldest person in the district - just for a puff piece - and ended up finding out that they had died a decade earlier, but not been reported so that the relative who'd been looking after her could still get her pension money. -

Ukraine ... Enlighten yourself
The article starts poorly drawing the usual false equivalence between Putin's historical views, which are shared by every Russian, and actual Russian foreign policy, which is a bit ludicrous. Of course the dissolution of the USSR has its issues and no state will just welcome a vote of independence. However, there is preciously little "interference" there, when you deduct the legitimate sorting out of nuclear and naval assets. However, this article too admits the actions of the West played a crucial role:: "From the Friendship Treaty in 1997 until the Orange Revolution in 2004, several important developments paved the way for the disruption that was to follow. First, NATO added three new members (Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland) in 1999, over Russia’s objections. Second, at almost the exact same time, NATO engaged in a bombing campaign to force the government of Serbia to stop ethnic cleansing in Kosovo. This intervention, which was repeatedly cited later by Putin, caused anger within the Russian leadership and nearly spurred a military confrontation between NATO and Russian forces in Kosovo. Third, Putin replaced Yeltsin as president, and initially had very constructive relations with the West, even as he methodically reduced pluralism in Russia by gaining control over the press, the oligarchs and the regions." -

Prime Minister in Tears Over Tragic Bangkok School Bus Fire
That’s BS. she’s supposed to be the country’s leader. It’s part of her job to address significant events. I believe sympathy is a more appropriate word than empathy. -

Did Trump lose the 2020 election? It's a simple question, let's see if you are psychologically able to give a straight answer. -

Anybody running Windows 11?
Better to get rid of all automobiles...IMHO....whether or not they might be AUDI. Autos do nothing but contribute to rampant Global Warming. Thankfully, I am no longer one of these pernicious polluters, riding around in an internal combustion machine. -

Four Charges Filed Against Driver in Bus Fire That Killed 23
If this was a lpg or propane jet fire, the flame temperature is around 2,000 C. The other combustibles in the bus should be much lower. -

You and your Thai Wife of 20 years.
I changed 3 wives and I am proud of this fact. My current wife is Chinese, so she does not beg for money. I married 4 years ago, so I will return to this thread in 20 years. -

V P Debate
When the debate moderators agree not to fact check, but they actually do fact check, that's bad. When they only fact check one of the candidates, that is worse. When they fact check incorrectly, come on man..... This is why I would suggest print journalists over tv talking heads as debate moderators. They don't have the ego problem that the news anchors and correspondents have. The unstoppable need to interject themselves into the scene. Plus the constant "well, we are moving on, we have a lot of ground to cover..." BS. What, is there a checklist of topics that they have been assigned? If so, they missed a few crucial ones. -

Four Charges Filed Against Driver in Bus Fire That Killed 23
Did the driver even try to open all the doors on the bus, if not he should be held liable, as well as the bus company. Just running away is cowardly. -

Four Charges Filed Against Driver in Bus Fire That Killed 23
This was a 50 odd year old bus with an engine that was replaced with a mercedes engine. Safety standards would have been different back then. -

Bank of Thailand Intervenes to Manage Baht's Exchange Rate
Yes, I think using her logic, since the baht is stronger now, they can now pay her less which will help her "better manage" her "spending in Thailand". -
