December 17, 201213 yr Wigan's pie eating fans would have filled half a row Out of interest does anyone know how Wigan came to get that nic?
December 17, 201213 yr Wigan's pie eating fans would have filled half a row Out of interest does anyone know how Wigan came to get that nic? Yes because Wigan is renowned for it's pies' ,everywhere you go in Wigan you are never further than 100 yards from a Pie shop(maybe an exageration, but ...) ...Must admit some of them are very, very nice .
December 17, 201213 yr I think Dave Whelan owned Pooles Pies I seem to remember..... .... now if only I could find,............ ...................ah here it is :- http://www.plattbridger.myby.co.uk/wigan/pies.htm

It's because during the miners strike in the 1920's, they were forced to go back to work and thus had to eat "humble pie"
December 18, 201213 yr Anybody got any specific pie shop recommendations in Wigan? I've just bought a ticket for the Arsenal match on Saturday*, so I might drive over there a bit early and sample the gastronomic delights! *sshh, don't tell them I'm much more of an Arsenal supporter than a Wigan one - I'm going to have to strangle any outburst of joy (or more likely frustration) at Arsenal's performance. I don't feel that much of a fraud, since I have cheered for Wigan on the 4 previous occasions I went there! 29 quid by the way - about a quarter of what I'd have to pay to watch them in the London arab shed.
