Skin Lightening

Featured Replies

I expect this has been talked about before?

My Thai GF would like to lighten her skin colour by a few shades. She says she can get injections in Bankgok that will do the job.

Really....!?

Anyone gone down this road with there Thai lady?

Everybody wants lighter skin here, especially if you are particularly dark-skinned. The market for products to fill this need is a bit like the western market for quick weight-loss products. There are a lot of products and systems, some of them just plain scams, some of them of with dubious health-risks, and some are dangerous. I don't have good info on particular products, but my general advice would be to tread carefully. Thailand does not have a lot of protection against irresponsible doctors or medical malpractice. Also, the desire to be whiter often takes a back-seat to safety, even if the patient knows its risky or bad for them.

I have only anecdotal information pertaining to whitening injections. I've heard they do work (noticeable, but not drastic). I also heard that they can be dangerous if not administered properly. Its my understanding that it is a long process, that takes several treatments over some months. Both patients and doctors (hopefully a real doctor) seem motivated to try to get the most result in the least amount of time, and be-damned safety.

I personally, do not let my GF do much for whitening. She's not dark to begin with, and I generally forbid or discourage her from using products which seem like they may be damaging. She looks great just like she is to me, but I'll let her do some stuff as long as it seems safe.

Never heard of it,. Sounds terrifying to me, frankly.

This is better off in the Health Forum I thnk

Be firm with her ... it's just aspirational advertising and bullshit to boot.

But her an umbrella.

Be sensitive to her concerns ... but don't spend the bucks ... it's bullshit 100%

... juts be nice how you say it ... smile.png

Hiya vulcan903, i think the GF is talking about skin bleaching surgery. It's popular in loads of countries... US, Brazil, Israel etc etc. just look at the Jackson family for an obvious example.

Your GF is fed a lot of BS about beauty through friends and media so it's probably very deeply rooted in her head now. If its a surgery she's adamant to have you'd be better off researching good quality surgeries and aftercare with her so that she doesn't end up sick.
