I always wonder why people choose to eat in front of a road or even rent/buy a condo/house at the ground floor in front of a road. I'm happy to now know that I am not alone to have this idea. It's true that most sitting was indoor, but I think that tourists do not like to sit indoor when on vacation in a tropical country. What was good at kahuna anyway ? Has it really closed? Can someone confirm?

IMPORTANT CORRECTION to the TOTALLY FALSE information that was posted above. Ignore that post above. It is wrong. Ignore all other replies to that FALSE information. Big Kahuna is NOT closed! People -- please do not post closure information unless you are TOTALLY CERTAIN that it really is closed. If you walk by and it looks closed but it is not definite, fine, say that, but then say you aren't sure. This isn't a trivial matter for business owners when they are STILL open. Again, BIG KAHUNA is OPEN. Popular Post Jingthing
I tried the excellent pizza promotion at Frankie's recently reviewed here. The deal is 220 from one of their regular pizza list including choice of soft drink for 220, no plus plus. So how good that deal is depends on whether you like their pizza or not. Well turns out I like their pizza. It's a more traditional Italian style crust, thin, crispy on the edges but not cardboard crisp otherwise, good quality cheese and tomato sauce, and minimalist but not absurdly so toppings. I was particularly impressed with the flavor of the tomato sauce. Seasoned very well and not too much sugar as is sadly common. It's not my favorite pizza of all time by any means, but I think it's up there for pizzas in this town. That deal is on day and night except for Monday because they're closed on Mondays. Here's the math of that deal. The pizza I had is regularly 290 and soda water is 60. So that's 350. So 220 is really a good deal if like me, you like their pizza. The names were in Italian and I looked it up on google but it wasn't really what I thought it was going to be, but whatever it was, mostly some kind of ham, it was good. That's a thing I don't like about the place. I think they should write descriptions of the dishes when there is a non-obvious Italian name.

balo
Frankie's Inn 2nd Road Stylish modern Italian in mid-JOMTIEN Indoor and outdoor seating This is a very new place. I tried it and I feel it is quite good relative to the Pattaya market. No I'm not jumping up and down in excitement but definitely worthy of repeat visits. Yes the prices are on the high side (unless you use eatigo). Easy to get to. From Jomtien beach road, stop at the Night Market and go down to 2nd road, then just turn right. You can see the location and pictures of the their food on these links. https://www.inspirepattaya.com/pattaya/frankies-inn-authentic-italian-restaurant-and-pizzeria-pattaya/ https://www.facebook.com/frankiespattaya/ I had the peppered mussels appetizer 280 and the lamb Ossobuco risotto w/ saffron rice 450 main course. The mussels had great flavor from the cooking stock, were fresh enough, but they seemed to be local smallish mussels and the dish was a tad bit too salty for my taste. Also the item is called peppered mussels so I was expecting maybe some peppers of some kind in the presentation, such as red bell peppers, but instead there were cherry tomatoes. The Ossobuco main dish was scrumptious. There was a surprise of a lot of peas in the meat part of it which I did enjoy. The only weird thing I found is that the dressing on the small side salad didn't taste like olive oil, and I didn't like the flavor of the oil they did use. Quite an ample portion of meat and risotto. Some other dishes which caught my eye on the menu -- House made pastas -- Gnocchi Ravioli Tagliatelle Pizzas of course but also an unusually large selection of PANZAROTTI which are similar to calzone. You can choose fried or baked. Although calzone aren't hard to find in town, I'm not aware of any other local restaurant that has a panzerotti section. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panzerotti Seems to be a featured dish here -- Ravioli w/ ricotta, spinach, pumpkin, pork cheeks, mushroom sauce. WOW! 290 Baked eggplant parm 280 (I confirmed that the eggplant was breaded) Garlic parm crusted salmon 340 As you can, kind of a more "special" menu. They are on eatigo.com (discount as much as 50 percent) and they also have an everyday special of choose most of their pizza choices (regular prices up to 280) including soft drink for 220 baht. Panzerotti not included with this pizza offer. There is no plus plus. Thumbs up for this place. I also study the Eatigo promotions, so with 50% discount it was a no brainer, had to visit. Their homemade pasta was really good , tried the Ravioli dish and for dessert penna cotta, excellent quality. I believe there is an Italian owner looking after the kitchen. With 50% discount you can't go wrong. Will try their pizza deal next time..... 1

As you know I like the Chinese invasion foodwise but the overall quality of the Chinese food here could still use a boost. Yes, it's way way better than it was five years ago and ridiculously better than ten years ago, but San Francisco, Hong Kong, or Singapore Pattaya is not. (Yet?) Also just based on numbers of restaurants it's more of an Indian invasion than a Chinese one. It's funny to me how most of the Indian restaurants here are mediocre or even poor. But volume we've got! It is not replacing another resto, it's completely new. Prime spot; rent must be very high. Places like this don't always last, but if it is all about location they couldn't do much better.

And remember also, many restaurants close the week before or after the Songkran holiday (or both) so do not mistake closure for "going out of business".

mogandave
Was supposed to read 'aren't allowed' In that case it would be a closed restaurant, not a restaurant that looks closed. Do they generally not put up a sign that says “closed”, and a note saying when they will reopen?

I recall one place that really looked completely shut up and asked about it online and was told they always close for one month every year. That's why I think instead of saying a place is closed better to say it looks closed, let's see for sure. Obviously if there is something like a big sign saying Out of Business or boarded up windows it's safe to say closed.
