I notice a lot of brand new red plate Porche Cayenne's on the road in Bangkok these days. Wonder how much these are actually paid for and why there is so many?

Probably most of them... And that is also a nice way of laundering money for people who do a lot of money which is not taxed (for example, through offshore companies situated in HK...).

obviously an import but how do they get it serviced? I used to have a New Beetle but sold it - why?

because the VW dealers REFUSED to service it unless I had documented proof it was bought from them

Toyota cars share a number of parts... Just need to import the parts you need if they are model-specific, and any local mechanic should be able to service those cars. Sometimes, grey importers may handle that aspect as well (not sure about this one, though). For VW, it would be more tricky... But there must be some local mechanics capable of working on those cars. You just need to be competent enough to order yourself the parts from abroad...

At "only" 6.65M for the S Hybrid (and about 700-900K less as a gray import) it's a head-and-shoulders standout in the luxury SUV segment. If shopping in that kind of price range, you'd have to think long and hard about not buying one, IMHO ;)
