Everyone Have A Good Night Yesterday Evening?

Rene, It is 22:00 evening on the West Coast of the US. Two hours until midnight. No, I'm not a party animal. I have a view of the county fairgrounds and they will have a fireworks show there and I can see and hear it from my house. I will watch the big celebration in Times Square in New York City on my TV. It already happened because they are 3 hours ahead of us, but they will televise it here at midnight. I will record it and watch it after the fireworks here.

I have a friend here tonight and we have some cold beer even though drinking is rather rare for me. Tonight is a good night to have some though.

Happy New Year to you, and everyone here.

It was a good night. My condo has a great view of the fireworks and I am able to see them without having to deal with the crowds. New Years Eve is a time I have always stayed home. There are too many amateur drinkers that go out and try for their professional license that night and fail misserably.

How was the hike? After seeing your post a few weeks ago, I went out and did the Samoeng ride. Was just about perfect. Ready to do it again.

Sorry to hear that man! Now you have even more reason to go to Furama next year :)

Unfortunately my laptop joined the ranks of champion drinkers

OOPS!!!

I started 2013 with a lesson; Chang is way too strong for electronic goods.

EDIT: because this tablet is OK for looking at things, but not much else.....

Hang Dong road was (almost) devoid of traffic until noon. BigC food court was too ... most locals eat i the restaurants which were chokka... queues at MK.

NYE in BanWangTan was a good one, enjoyed the ambiance, music and company ... food ok, especially the BBQ satays.

Agreed. I wanted to go out, but couldn't.. It was miserable trying to get through the crowd.

Never mind that. You are right about the Duke's pizza. :)

Did you have to have reservations? Was it a set menu or just of the menu?

Fantastic view any time of the year from there.

The best New Years Eve in many years. Very little fireworks on our soi, except for 5 minutes around 24.00. Had a good night sleep. smile.png

Me and the she-wok were just outside TP gate. We walked through the mob only once, to see the Thai superstar on stage, then we went back out to the street. We didn't realize the fireworks were going to be launched from right there... a big "THWOOMP!!!" and the show started. Interesting new perspective, being directly under the fireworks. Never seen 'em that way before.

It wasnt too bad on the sidewalks outside the gate... crowded, but not elbow to elbow. We had parked the bike about a mile away, over near the CM Saloon and Euro Diner. Strangers were high-fiving eachother and wishing one another a happy new year, very few people seemed drunk. I saw some folks walking with beer bottles here & there, but by and large most of the crowd (including myself) weren't drinking. The atmosphere was pleasant and enjoyable, with lots of smiles and well wishes... definitely not that way inside the gate though. We were close enough to the action to hear the Thai star's songs, but far enough away to breathe comfortably and stand easy. And as I said, it was a front row seat for the fireworks. Not a bad way to spend the night considering I spent a total of 70 baht over 2 hours... just a couple of waters and a few sticks of BBQ.

Lot of people up stairs. My girlfriend works at Furama so I had no reservations or so. We just went up with all staff to celebrate (since my gf had a late shift) Very nice view indeed!

I went to Loy Kroh, which was fun, then took a tuktuk to the reggae area, which was even better. (bypassing the Thapae crowd through the sois). Then walked back, by 1am it was easy to walk through the Thapae area. Good night.

Just a little disappointing that there were literally ZERO police checkpoints in active operation. They engage in cone-arrangement just for fun it seems, then go AWOL.

Find that too... I drove back home at 3AM (being a little dizzy of beers) and did not see one cop around.. Before new year some streets and highway entries where full of check points but it seemed that at the moment supreme they all went missing.

That's because the have already lined their pockets before the big party.

Emerald Hotel Rachada - worst band ever in the wine bar - with Saxaphone solos that were truly appalling resulting in giggles from me whenever he kicked off - apart from our party rest mainland Chinese in the bar with usual raucus - chanting monks at midnight on the TV and early to bed which was probably for the best. Happy New Year to everybody and may all your wishes come true.

That would make sense. They need money and time off to party also. It beats the over regulated "official" parties back in Canada. I enjoy watching people have a good time. I did and even had time for a bit of a walk the next day.

It makes sense in this country..
