I am living in Thailand together with my Thai wife. I fulfill the financial requirements for the extension of the non immigrant -o- (monthly income from my home country) and have successfully extended my visa for 365 days a few times already. I have been offered a part time teaching job by a private school. What are the financial requirements for obtaining a work permit for this job in my case?

Thanks for helpful answers!

Thanks for the quick answer! If this job wouldn't be a teaching job, would it make any difference at all that I receive a monthly income from my home country and live in Thailand on a marriage extension of the non -o- visa?

If you have covered your extension based on income abroad there's no reason to mention the other job at immigration.

Immigrations and labour office work independently.

But doesn't the labour dept. want to see a non-imm B visa, as opposed to an O, in order to issue a work permit?

Labour will issue a WP when on extension of stay based on marriage.

Labour office in Phuket is the only one not following the rules as far as I know.

Are there other jobs that do not require salary for work permits with labour dept (as with teaching)?

...I'm looking into the same marriage extension and am interested in work permit options to keep myself busy, but unable to garauntee myself a salary.

The only visa requirement for a work permit is that it be a non immigrant visa. Their have been reports that some labor offices have refused them with a non O. But I am not sure that all of those were based upon being married to a Thai.

Most posts I recall about this were cases where the employers lawyer or agent were the ones stating that it could not be done not the labor office.

The most important thing when getting the visa or extension is to insure that an annotation is made that it is based upon marriage to a Thai.

Also that a copy of marriage certificate is included when making the application (included on BOI list of required documents for work permit application).
