Mousehound, the Hoopoes are back and they brought some friends with them.

Would you know what kind of bird the friends are?

The other bird is a Black Collared Starling- usually seen in pairs and have a very distinctive call.

Thank you, thetefldon.

Nice to know the names of the birds I see in my garden.

Just now I spotted another one.

Some serious cropping here as I'm shooting from my window.

Would you know the kind?

Crested myna

Thank you but.........

The crested myna (Acridotheres cristatellus) is a species of starling native to southeastern China and Indochina. Unlike other similarmynas, its bill is dull whitish rather than orange-yellow.

Wikipedia.

Is it still a crested myna?

^ beat me to that!

I accept your apologiesthumbsup.gif

Had an air display show, over my house.

Unfortunately, I haven't got a powerful enough lens, so I had to crop the images.

Chonburiram what is the species?

TP1, keep the doors and windows closed!

post-95325-14450003629585_thumb.jpg

Thank you for warning me.

Double locks on the doors and extra iron bars on the windows from tomorrow morning.

In fact thinking of going to one of those Wats I visit and become a monk for a while.

She's been very broody recently.

She wants a baby girl.

We can't go out together without her, when she sees a little girl turning around and telling me.

I want one of those.

Hope the bloody stork, doesn't come in tonight.................................

Hi TP1

Asian Openbill

Asian Openbill are resident to Thailand (as well as India and etc.) and fairly common here year round depending on where you are. Though they apparently do get around a bit...

Interesting. So they nest in Thailand and most migrate to Bangladesh.

I'm not sure that it's most, but definitely some. They are nearly everywhere there is water year round in the Chonburi/Central Thailand area. Even along the motorway very close to the city or on Bangna coming in from Chonburi, you see them soaring over the highways in pretty populated areas. And when I lived on a reservoir / wetlands in Surin they were there year round as well... but never had any breeding records.

"The Birds of the Bangkok Area" by Philip Round has an in depth history of the Openbill in Thailand, nesting colonies and etc., from 1949 through to 2008 publication.

Even if you live in the north or the northeast or the south, this a great book to have. It's not a field guide - it's a big book - and it doesn't cover all species - but it covers a lot of species and has more info on the species it does cover then you'll find elsewhere in print.

Attached are pics of Openbill at Bangphra reservoir, one from July and two from late August.
