Hi, I hold a British Passport, 36 years old, and I'm currently traveling through Thailand with my Thai girlfriend.

In the UK I applied for a Multiple Tourist Visa that allows me three entries into Thailand (up to 180 days). So far I have activated 2 of my tourist visas, and I am due to activate my final one on 9th February 2013 which should take me up to around 10th April 2013.

I would like to get an extension for all three tourist visas (up to an additional 90 days) and I was informed by the Immigration Officer that this can be done once the final tourist visa has been activated. What I'm uncertain of is when I can go and make the application for the extension. Can it be done straight away after the third tourist visa has been activated or should I wait until closer to the visa expiration date?

Based on the information I was given I'm assuming that only one application form is required to get the three extensions at once. Is this correct or will I need to make three individual applications?

Any help is appreciated.

I'm afraid to say but I think you will only get a 30 day extension based on the current activated entry, therefore the first entry is now null and void so to speak.

You can go to any immigration office around a week before your current permission to stay stamp expires and obtain the 30 day extension for 1900 baht.

You should have applied for an extension on your first entry in the same manner as I state above, you can not pool all three entry's together.

You need to also be aware of the utilisation date on the visa which I believe is 6 months from the date of issue,as with using extensions you can often over run the utilisation date.

To obtain the maximum from a triple entry tourist visa you really have to plan ahead to ensure you maximise it's potential.

Sorry I forgot to add that you will not loose any days on your current permission to stay, for example you say you are permitted to stay until the 9th of Feb,if you go to immigration say on the 1st of Feb and apply for the 30 day extension you will then be permitted to stay 30 days after the 9th of Feb some time in early March.

You should have extended the first entriy before your permission to stay expired. You can not go back and have it extended retroactively now, it is used. However, you can extend the second entry, which you are here on now, for 30 days at immgration in Thailand, cost 1900 baht. The 30 days will be added to your current permission to stay. You must do this during the last 30 days of your permission to stay. Then you must exit and re-enter. The last entry, third, must be made on or before the "must enter by " date on your VISA. You will get 60 days which can then be extended for 30 (1900 baht) even though your visa will have expired.

Thank you for the quick responses, that has cleared up the extension process for me now.

It's unfortunate that the 30 days from the first entry have been missed. I'm sure the Immigration Officer gave me the correct advice when I first enquired but it obviously wasn't understood by myself correctly, so lesson learnt for next time.

I'm glad we found this forum to post here for clarification first otherwise I could have missed out on the second extension period too. Thanks again for your help and advice.

There is no 30 days from the first entry - you extend during the last few days of any 60 day entry but it seems you failed to do so and used a second entry already so there is no provision to go back in time.
